How to get the gun back into its holster??? any got any tips

hi, imn just in the progress of making my first pack  only thing is, when i tried on the pack i can pull the gun out of the holster but cant turn my head round enough to see the v hook took relocate my gun to the pack?

anyone else have this problem?

or is it plainly a two man job?

any tips please?

thanks

It is very difficult but it can be done. It really depends on your flexibility and hand eye cordination.

The Ghostbusters from the movies clipped their gun to their belts after it was removed from the hook.

The Ghostbusters in the cartoons would throw their gun in the air, and catch it on the hook.*

*Do not attempt!

so basicly its just practice, practice , practice?

lol yeh i just tried throwin it up! worked perfectly  haha

i might put a extra block coming off the side of the pack to make it easier to see, so it would be further out to my side. or do you think that would completely ruin the look of the pack?

Depends on how far you space them out, and what you are using for the hook. The original one was mounted onto a 1/4" plate, then the actual trapezoid shape was spaced out a little bit as well.

ahh ya see, i never knew that, that should give me a extra half inch or so

and yea im just using one of the cheap v hooks, lol cant afford the proper type. not bothered bout it beeing 100% screen accurate anyway

its a expensive do, this pack building stuff lol

If you are using the Dixie hook connector (I assume that is what you mean).. I would mount it to 1/4" aluminum, and then use another peice of 1/4" or 3/16" aluminum to further space it out. You are using the shorter ‘female’ part on the pack.. or the longer male peice? I would use the female on the back, and the male on the gun… spacing that one out as well.

ok nice one, thanks for ya help, il try get that sorted and see how things go

As they’ve said practice. Try in front of the mirror to get used to the movement. Also be prepared to bang your wand and pack up a bit in the process. If you want the weathered look, it’s certainly a natrual way to get it.

thanks, well mine is allready weatheres from that much banging and kncoking around lol

o well at leats its sturdy

Mount the hook at more of an angle if it’s somewhat perpendicular to the pack. Have someone stand beside you and watch you go to hook it, and note the angle at which you slid it past the gun mount block, then mount the hook on the pack at that angle. That way, it becomes a bit more natural to slide it back there.

Beyond that, lots of practice. Last year at Dragon*Con was the first outing I’ve had where I could reliably holster my own gun.

If all else fails, just get a keychain belt clip from the GBfans shop and mount an S-hook on the gun (if you don’t have those already), then just hang it from your belt! Simple and screen-accurate too

..I could totally do this.

I know someone who perfected this after long hours of study, let me see if I can conjure him up.

It is I who the Ron Daniels™ speaks of.

I perfected this by having too much time on my hands. Just keep practicing until it comes natural. I rarely miss the mark anymore.

mine’s a custom pack, with a custom wand holder. Either way, angling is important, since a 90 degree would be almost impossible do.

I’m working on mini proton packs for my kids right now (see post) and I know that getting the gun back in place is gonna be hard for them so I’m thinking of going with Magnets instead.

magnets? For kids, that would be a great idea!

NOW THAT is truly good info. I have wondered about that myself. It never accured to me as to how to get it manuevered back into the slot. VERY GOOD INSIGHT!

Don’t use magnets for a full sized pack.

Imagine seeing something probably worth $200-300 by itself fall to the ground and shatter because you moved too quickly and a magnet slid loose.

BAD IDEA

Thanks Tellwhy–important safety tip : p Yeah, or if you use a strong enough magnet to hold up a 5 lb wand, you aren’t getting it off too easily. : )

…I just paraphrased Ghostbusters and didn’t even realize it, didn’t I?

I’m as sick as the rest of you…
