I finally see why ghostbusters travel in packs

ITS FREAKIN IMPOSSIBLE TO MOUNT YOUR GUN BY YOURSELF. Haha, seriously I spent forever trying to get it mounted and must’ve looked a fool too.

I’ve been able to do it! Once.

I have my girlfriend to help out. I usually have her switch me on to avoid having to deal with the gun, but she always - ALWAYS - forgets which switch is the power button. So she’ll trigger the theme song or the vent sound or something and everyone will stare at me at an inappropriate time (which is usually when she’s frantically flipping switches and I’m smacking my forehead).

She’s gotten good at putting the gun back in its place but she’s very often annoyed by it.

I’ve thought about running a spare activation switch to my belt gizmo to help out. Just a small, low profile wire that will go from the pack to the daughter board and to the main gizmo that I can flick on and off without all the fuss.

Hahaha, id like to see that fiascal take place. Maybe just move your main on switch to the lower back of the motherboard. I have my main power on at the top of my pack and is a pain to reach but i can get it. Lukily it doesnt make any noises til i flick my gun on too.

At PKE Surge we call it De-Tarding…

So if you’re out with a bunch of busters and one asks if you can de-■■■■ him, that’s what he means.

(Reason being if you go through the motion of trying to mount the thrower unsuccessfully, it looks like a mentally challenged person having a fit.)

I can only holster my thrower in front of a mirror. A lot of us were able to do it with a dixie bracket but since most of us upgraded to Vhooks it’s been a little harder. But there’s always plan B.

But that’s why there are fobs on the belt and the S-hook on the thrower.

I can almost always get my GB I V-Hook on the first try…

Omg, thanks for the laugh this morning. That is freakin priceless!

I’m one of the lucky ones that can re-holster the wand myself, also with a GB1 v-hook. I had no idea it was a noteworthy skill until the first year I went to SDCC in gear. I was talking to some other busters, and just slung it back onto the pack without thinking, and one of them said “Woah, you can do that by yourself?!” Made me feel very cool…next time I watched the films I realized they never re-holster them either.

I’d imagine a touch of WD-40 on the v-hook would help make it a bit easier to re-holster, but I suppose it just comes down to a weird combo of height, where the pack hangs on you, etc…

My shoulders are too wide for me to reach back there. I almost have to remove my pack entirely to reach it.

Tonight my girlfriend had trouble getting it back on for me. Some random guy said, "Oh for gods sake!’ and shoved her out of the way and hooked it on.

I calmly turned to him and after thanking him, said if he ever touches my girl or my pack again, I’d break his f’n hand. Then said have a good one and we walked off.

I’ve since gotten a lot of grief from the gf for including my pack in that comment…

I am fully confident that anyone can learn this skill with a bit of practice in front of a mirror and a bunch of muscle memory. Yes, you may not be able to holster without looking like Ray does in the video game, but I assure you with a little stubbornness, this is possible.

Wow, I had no idea this was a real issue. I only imagined it would’ve been tricky. Damn.

Yep. Here’s me getting De-tarded back in 2010:

I’ve been wearing my pack around the house to get used to it and I’ve actually gotten so I can reliably reholster it. I basically just learned where to put my arm. It probably depends on the vhook as well.

(Scribbling this down) De-tarding. I’m learning a lot from you Chace. Milk steak is on me.

I’ve definitely been trying to teach myself how to put the thrower back on the V-hook myself, I’m getting better at it, but when I start to get frustrated when I can’t exactly do it, I just remind myself that I installed a s-hook and I have key fobs! Lol

I practiced for many hours as a child re-holstering the wand on the Kenner pack, and now I can get the wand holstered on my movie pack fairly quick after 1 or 2 tries. It’s just like riding a bike! You never forget after much practice..
