Ideas Please For Trap Pedal Bellow

As the title says, I’m looking for ideas for the Trap Pedal bellow that goes under the pedal itself?

What have people used?

Also, once they have found the bellow/gaiter, how have they attached it to both the pedal and base?

Much appreciated guys.

Keith

Are you talking about the black springy thing? I was JUST at my local Fred Meyer getting some other stuff and thought I’d check out their hardware section to see if I could find something for it myself and I think I may have.

I found a Plumb Craft brand 1.5" Flexible Coupler in the plumbing section that I thought would make a good spring. Just cut the excess plastic off so it only leaves the thicker middle “spring” part and paint it black. It stiff enough so it won’t just collapse upon itself, but flexible enough that will enough foot pressure you can squeeze it down. I guess just make sure you attach it very sturdily to your petal base and pedal itself. I’m still looking for other things that may collapse a bit more and more easily, but this is the first thing I found which may work.

Here’s a pic of it…

I’m curious to know what other things people are using as well.

Thanks for your reply…I think I have found what I need, it’s a rubber gaiter from the steering joint of a car. I’ve cleaned it up and cut it to size, it’s about 2.5" or just slightly narrower than the pedal, being black rubber there is no need to paint it. It’s quiite firm and should support the pedal very easily…I’m just working on a secure way of fixing it now. Looks like I may use a hole cutter to cut a 2.5" circle from 3/4" MDF, this will then be screwed to the base and the bellow slipped over it and glued in place. The other end will be similar, except the MDF cirle will be gliued to the underside of the pedal and the other end of the bellow slipped over it…may or may not need securing.

Pic to follow.

Hope this helps.

Oh nice, I’ll have to look into that, pics would be very helpful so I can see what you’re talking about.

Here’s the rubber gaiter I was talking about…I’ve cut it in half and then again down to the size I needed on the right:

And here it is under the pedal. After this pic I rested a book on the pedal over night and the rubber gaiter took the correct form.

wow, that works pretty well. I think I’m gonna try to use what I got first, and if it looks funky or just doesn’t work out like I think it will, I’ll try to find that gaiter piece.
