Considering Ernie Hudson was the only cast member to audition for his role in RGB I think he’d be into doing more games. He seemed to be really into this one and he always seems to be good natured when fans approach him. I could see him wanting to do it. As for Bill, well who knows. He is rather fickle. Personally, I don’t think he is absolutely needed for a video game sequel. With the game, everyone seems to be getting a lot of screen time as well as funny scenes. So while I’d like him to be part of a sequel game, I think they could easily get away with just Dan, Harold, and Ernie if they had to.
I think a sequal based on franchise expansion is the way to go personally…
I understand and agree with what was said about the loss in apeal by taking the original four Ghostbusters oyut of the loop, however, as long as Dan and Harold are overssing the writing, and maybe with an appropriate amount of refferences to both the original busters, the films, and the previous game, it may pass well enough.
When introducing new characters it is important to remember not to try and carbon copy the comedic chemestry of the originals, so much as create new comedic chemestry in the same faithful fashion…
If you take the comedy aspect to the direction of an outsider’s point of view, you may have something…
Originally the Comedy direction was the three scientists building this franchise, and how they treat the extraordinary like a mundane chore…
This time around… you have your rookie, turned franchise head, hiring some new recruits of his own, who are outsiders, that don’t quite understand the world they are getting into just yet, Think a whole team of Winstons, who are looking for a Job, they encounter the paranormal and they are trying to understand why boss man (former rookie) treats it like just a job…
I think that has it’s element of humor…
Also the idea that you would need to hire some technical experts… maybe a guy that is a good engineer but knows next to nothing about ghosts, and you need more equipment so you hand him the blue prints to a proton pack which he has never seen before… and say… “Hey… build me some of these…”
Who knows for sure… I am sure the biggest obsticle will be fan acceptance…
Most are down witht he franchising… but many also hold an attatchment to the original heroes…
It’s a tricky concept for sure.
I too like the franchise idea. I’d say more San Francisco compared to Los Angeles. Just so they can make references to Bullitt and Dirty Harry. More GTA-style would be nice since it’d be a new team. Perhaps they’d have their own ghost mascot too and secretary/receptionist? Maybe even a Ghostbuster from Chinatown? I think where you scope the city and meet prospects would be cool. Even set up divisions.
I’d rather have a set story that can truly be considered canon rather than being able to go full out and make it all up yourself. Something like spiderman 2. It’s got a set story you have to play through, but still allows for you to have your own side adventures.
I’d like to be able to perhaps not have to hurry up from mission to mission and be able to go to the secretary and pick up calls the same way you could stop to deliver pizzas or get assignments from the daily bugle in spidey 2. You could make some money, upgrade stuff, build your team’s rep, but you still have the solid main plot throughout. It should retain the movie feel, but just have that added sense of what if you could pause the movie for a bit and just go joy riding (or joy busting?) with ecto and a proton pack.
The characters wouldn’t be customizable, but in exchange, you’d get slick prerendered cut scenes and there would be freedom to directly reference the characters both in other games and even in movies/cartoons/etc. Plus, most of all, if they were set characters with set names, you wouldn’t have to put up with a team full of "Hey Scooter!"s. You could still have the feeling of being the rookie character by not having a name, because they would just call you “Captain” or “Sir”.
It would be cool if the team was a little bigger as well. 4 field busters, 1 secretary, and 1 mechanic for the car and any equipment, cause everyone they hire isn’t going to have the scientific or technical expertise the originals had. The mechanic would figure in well because he would serve as the portion of the HQ where you could go and add stuff to the car or equip new weapons systems to the packs when Ray and Egon send nifty gadgets from NY.
As far as first person shooter, I say keep it relegated to when you’ve got the PKE and goggles on. I never liked FPS games, and I hate not being able to see exactly where you are in relation to what’s around you. It makes even less sense when you think about all the gear your wearing, especially the pack. Does anyone really want to spend half the game bumping into ■■■■ because you can’t see your whole body? Wandering around, trying to guess if you’re close enough to your trap to pick it up? Besides, seeing the gear working and in action is a big part of the draw, don’t forget. We might take it for granted cause we all have pack replicas sitting in our rooms, but the rest of the world doesn’t. Part of the fun for them is being able to watch that thing do what it does.
I don’t think that every team that is established from now on needs a mascot ghost. Slimer is unique and should stay that way. I do like that tank they made for him though. It could be used as a cool way to add ghosts to Tobin’s spirit guide that you didn’t have a chance to scan because you were to busy trapping them or whatever. Just call them up from the big ECU with that and hit “add to guide”. You should definitely get that.
Oh boy, so many ideas…
Yeah the mascot ghost thing should be unique to slimer…
if every team had one it would get a bit cheesy..
Also it would be a great oportunity for them to create a new Ecto…
We love the 59 caddy, but I’m sure not all the teams especially now can get their hands on a caddy, so what other vehicles could they find? would be interesting to find out.
If not all 59 caddies, then at least all some type of 1950s-70s car chasis based ambulance. That way it lets the company retain a little bit of uniformity, but still allows for some individuality in the roof rack/ paintjob/ make and model of the car/ etc.
I’m more for the GTA open-world style with you getting your own franchise and starting from the ground up (i.e. you maybe get some start-up capital where you choose your headquarters, & your first GB vehicle and you can upgrade/expand as you go) but since the beginning when this game was first in development I thought about converting the GB franchise idea into some kind of MMORPG style game.
What do you guys think? You could start as a new recruit under the previous “new recruit” that we just played as. You get your orders/missions from NPC characters at first, but as you progress and earn money you could have the option to branch off into your own franchise anywhere in the world. Once you have your own franchise you can invite your friends to join you or you could simply have NPC busters that you choose based on their personal characteristics. (i.e. strength, accuracy, etc)
What do you guys think? Either way i’d be happy with both if they’re done correctly. The one thing they MUST include in a sequel is CO-OP STORY MODE!!! The co-op multiplayer works SO well when busting with friends… if they could apply that to the main storyline so you could choose one or the other rather than being forced into the competitive co-op mode when you want to play with friends.
I’d rather stay with the style of game we got and simply improve on it. It allows things to happen in continuity and to retain the cinematic feel. Starting in one franchise and then branching out all in the same game seems to big for one game’s britches. Besides, we just did that in this one. I’d like to continue playing as the same character and be able to be in charge as opposed to starting back at the bottom. Again, I think a Spider-Man 2 type game that has free roam along with a solid story is the way to go. Basically, what we got in GBTVG (improved upon where needed), but with the ability to do some money making side busts during the game, and continuing after the main storyline is completed. Leave the character customization for the online play mode.
I just came up with this in another thread. What do you guys think?
well i just checked out the review of ghostbusters the video game for x-play and surprise they gave the game a 4 out of 5. what makes me so suprised is that while they gave resident evil 5 a 3 out of 5 which was stupid. they managed to give ghostbusters tvg a better rating. which is good a 4 out of 5 to me is like a b+ or a b- , aside from that gamepro gave the game the same rating 4 out of 5. all in all it’s nice to see that this game is getting some love from even the harshest of critics.
you do have to remember that sony is advertised a lot through gamepro and give free electronics to g4. but nonetheless i love the publicity and support the game is getting. keep the franchise alive!!!
As far as the story let Sony deal with that because I was tremendously satisfied with the story they used for the game so I trust them.
I totally agree with the whole GTA and Spider Man aspect that would be something that could quench our thirst for GB a little more! What I would do is have the game play out the exact same way as this one did and then after you beat it, the whole GTA/Spider Man thing can come in. The reason why that stuff shouldn’t happen until after the game is that it doesn’t take away from the whole story or movie feel.
Once you have beaten the game the GTA mode should be unlocked then you could go around taking missions and unlock all kinds of bonuses and secrets!
Too much data for a single disc right there. That’s 2 whole games, and 2 whole games worth of development packed into a single $60 disc. That’s bad business and can’t possibly happen.
I don’t know, a GTA real world environment would be enticing. If there are random ghost encounters along the way, so you can chose to take care of those or chose to go to the main objective area. But the downside is that it’s fun for GTA, because you get sweet different cars, run over people, drive away from cops or the mafia or gangs, all that fun stuff. You wouldn’t really get any of that from a Ghostbusters game, thus the open world GTA format just wouldn’t pack as big a punch. Driving around would eventually get boring and dull as you know there won’t be hundreds of jumps, the Ecto will drive through people instead of over people, etc. So I can’t really compare GTA’s format to a Ghostbusters based one, it wouldn’t be the same and would have far less involved with the open world.
Agreed! I was just talking about some more free roaming stuff after you beat the game and small missions you can go on around the city!
Except if they do do the GTA deal… they should make it graphically the same as this one… up close over the shoulder instead of smaller and decreased graphics… you might have to load to other areas, but you should still be able to go anywhere.
I’m still not on board with the GTA thing, on paper it sounds good but for some reason I always get burnt out on those games. Maybe I just need direction lol
But seriously something I want to add emphasized is escalation. Especially if it’s a new group. I’d like to see a the life of a typical GB. Catching small time ghosts for a bit, then there’s a bunch of them, frequency keeps picking up, stronger ghosts appear until you find out whats causing it and final showdown. It would add onto gameplay time, instead of starting off by jumping in the deep end. It’s more how the movies played out, and give us time to know the characters.
I’d also like to see more busts like slimers from the game, where you have to investigate and find rather than go somewhere for a reason and be ambushed by fleets of ghosts. Catching a ghost one on one (alright a few minions controlled by the main spirit) when done right is a blast.
If they create another game, they’ll probably wait til gb3 is released and base it off of that…hopefully it’s not a lemon.
You don’t need a complete free roaming style game, but you do need side-missions to break up the story a little bit and stretch out game play. Side cases. How cool would it have been if you’re hanging out in the firehouse and you Janine shouts “we’ve got one!” and you need to race out to the job?
That would rock. That was one of the things I felt was missing from the game. It would be weird having a montage like in the movies but you could have a set of busts in there. I mean while Ray and Egon are investigating/researching the spike in PKE, it would be cool to do normal busts, and they’ll fill you in when you get back.
I agree with you both! That would be AWESOME! I actually had been thinking that would be cool even before the game came out. I don’t fault them for not having it (and I didn’t expect they would), but that would be one really cool idea if they ever do make a sequel.
I’ve always related the idea to the Spider-Man 2 game. There was the main story, but there were also all the little side things you could do in addition. Plus, even better yet, after you beat the game, you can still keep playing and do all the little random stuff. I’d love to see that if they did a new Ghostbusters game. They should go back to the fire house more often than they did in this game. Then, every time they do, you get the little thing that says “Go the the Ecto-1 when you are ready,” but you can also instead choose to go on several side busts not related to the main story.
Their could be countless side busts that didn’t HAVE to be completed to win the game, but are there just for you to have fun. Then, just like the Spider-Man 2 game, once you beat the game, it would be cool if they actually let you still hang out at the fire house and do the side busts all you want. It would give the game even more re-playability.
They could always do a game that’s not a direct sequel but
a game based on the Real Ghostbusters with the voices of the
original cast from the first 3 seasons. That would be very cool.
