If a sequel game came out, how should they approach it?

The game itself seems pretty damn cool. Some reviewers are saying it’s just another FPS, but it’s not like any game i have played before (not that I play many FPS though). So, assuming it sells well I can TR wanting to pursue a second game. Assuming they do, how do you think it should be approached?

Should you still have all the equipment upgrades? Should all the artifacts still be at the fire house? Should it take place further in the future, perhaps a tie in to the possible GB3 or should it be a prequel, perhaps following what happened to the rookie before you?

Also, what changes would you like to see between this game and a new one?

I’d like to be able to downgrade as well as upgrade. I find myself not really needing the stasis beam and thus I didn’t really need to upgrade it. If a second game is to be made I’d like to see the ability to downgrade your equipment. I miss having the wondering proton stream as well.

I’d also like to see a pre-quel type game, bewteen GB2 and this game. Perhaps show why the Vigo painting is back, show what happened to all that pink slime, show why Dana and Peter aren’t together anymore (sigourney weaver wanted in on this game in the end, maybe she’ll want in on the next one from the start), have Louis Tully in the game (if Rick decides to do GB3 he may lend his voice to another game). There is still a lot of story to tell and explore. Obviously a pre-quel wouldn’t have the same equipment we see in this game, but maybe we could see some of the equipment that failed. We could still have a slimer blower, but the old one. We could still have other upgrades, but maybe they are more dangerous and bulkier and maybe in the end it kills the first rookie.

just some ideas. What about you guys?

i think they should do the same stuff they did in the game with a few exeptions (make newer weopons, be able to drive or be on ecto 1 in motion, and a larger ghost gallery the next time around… i enjoyed the ghosts in the game though.

and rule # 1, have Dan and Harold write the script and oversee you, and keep the cgi style to the cutscenes.

Don’t you mean TPS? FPS is First Person Shooter.. and Ghostbusters is definitely not a First Person Shooter..Its more Third Person if anything..and I disagree that its just another FPS like some gamers are saying.. its far better than another generic FPS..

I suppose the only 1st person thing in the game would be when you use your PKE Meter to scan for paranormal phenomenon..

If they were to tackle a sequel in the near future I see more success for the franchise if players had the ability to choose whether to play in third person or first person - not that the third person gameplay bothered me, mind you.

Completely agree with everything said here. Particularly the Dan and Harold writing it… the old humor was completely back in this. So many LOL moments.

Honestly I think they will go with a different approach rather than a direct sequel. They offered the rookie to lead a new franchise in a bigger city, which makes me think that’s what will happen (it makes more sense I guess, there’s noway they can bring back all the actors again for another game with the new movie climbing out of the depths of hell again).

Which can make all sorts of cool features, maybe they will let us create and customize our own character.

I dunno, if you take the original 4 out of the game you lose a lot of appeal.

I think that with the ending of the game…

The guys offering the rookie the chance to head his own franchise

… That opens a world of possibilities. The next game can be the rookie heading up his own crew…with the squad commands that were removed from this game because the rookie shouldn’t be ordering around the professionals.

I am crossing my fingers for the sequel to be kind of sandbox/open-world style… you get your own version of the ectomobile… Maybe you choose a car from a junkyard at the beginning of the game & you can outfit it as you choose with different choices of light bars, decals, ghost equipment etc. (does anyone see a ghost vacuum on the roof?) You could also choose the building where you want to setup your HQ and design it how you choose.

For the car you can install some kind of PKE detecting device that helps you detect ghosts in the city as you’re driving around, or you can also rely on Janine & your in-car two-way radio to get jobs. The ones you find by driving around on the street would be side-missions while the ones that are assigned to you over the radio would be ones that drive the story.

The original guys can make cameos, but i think they are probably going to want to take the GB’s in a completely new direction and “freshen” it up for the new generation. Personally, I am fine with that, but I wouldn’t want them to COMPLETELY drop the original guys as they are the appeal of the ghostbusters to begin with. I don’t think that necessarily means they have to be the focus of the game.

I’m not sure how it would work out, but I would definitely love to see an open world GB game where you are in charge of your own branch of the GB franchise.

I’ve said it once or twice before, but a GTA style Ghostbusters game could potentially offer a wonderful gaming experience.

If you can drive the Ecto, make it so that you can listen to messages/answer the phone/get assignments from Janine and just hop in the car and go make some money! It would be a cool way to keep the game going after it’s over, the same way Spider-man 2 lets you swing around after it’s over and just stop random crimes/do random good deeds.

There are SO MANY possibilities for a sequel. After all, since all the ghosts were freed from the containment unit, I’d love to see a re-capturing of the old RGB ghosts as well as some classics like the Scolari Brothers.

Do not release amazing concept art like this…

…and then not deliver in the final game. BIGGEST. DISAPPOINTMENT. EVER.

I think they will make a sequel that will take place in 1992, in Los Angeles, Chicago or some other U.S. city where you are the person who is starting their own franchise. With the help of Ray Stantz (and maybe others) you are training new recruits. This way TR can implement the voice command they originally had, adding a new dynamic to the game.

Finally finished it! I must say:
after hearing the credits dialouge, I would love a game that has you setting up an LA office. Personally, I thought Cincinatti was a random choice, and Chicago would be cool later on,but first and foremost there should be offices on both coasts, and it makes since to have one in the north-east and then one in the south west. I think it’d be cool to have the guys train your team and sort of watch you and make sure you can lead well. Those first couple levels would be in NY. Then they’d fly you out to LA and you could start setting up shop and doing jobs. I like the idea of customizing your office and car. Though I’d prefer if everyone had the same 59 caddy ambulance (or at the very least a variety of similar shaped old ambulances, though I really would want them to all be the same), It’d be cool to choose exactly what went on your roof rack and whether you wanted things like the warning stripes on the side of the car, etc. ( I think a roll cage with more lights on it like the car had in XGB would be SICK!) The equipment should be the same across the board for all the franchises, aside from any new add ons the ny team sends you. It’d be too hard to try and make the equipment fully customizable outside of what parts you want/don’t want.

Anyway, you get to LA and start doing jobs with your new team and secretary, and every once in awhile the NY team checks up on you over the phone (cut scenes). They can give you tips and stuff, but it’s mostly you.

The main story, outside of you setting up the first new franchise, can be that since there haven’t been any GBs on the west coast, something big has been quietly brewing there unnoticed and decides to strike quickly now while you are still trying to get settled. You do what you can, at the end, the NY GBs show up to help the final battle because the threat is to big for a single team of 4 GBs, even if it had been just the originals. End it with a big fight in the city and then a scene like this:

-The GBs, all 8, look around after the blast. They just defeated (whatever) and saved the day in the middle of downtown during work traffic. The people all around start to cheer madly. The GBs start to get back to there feet, beginning to take in the adoration of their first big feat as a team. Peter starts to play it up and wave to the crowd until Ray grabs his waving arm and pulls it down and the original team backs off toward their Ecto. Winston nods at the kid that used to be their Rookie with admiration. They’ve had their time for glory and will probably have more, but now it’s the rookie and his team’s time to shine. The rookie gives a knowing smile and nods back to his mentors as the crowds hoist him up on their shoulders with the rest of the LA team, chanting “GHOSTBUSTERS, GHOSTBUSTERS!” The original team gets back to Ecto 1 and packs up. “Our little boy’s all grown up and saving the his own city, Egon!” Peter wails like a proud parent, a throw back to a joke from the first game of peter and egon being his parents. “Yep, we done good with this one boys. I think we can sleep safely, along with rest of the west coast now.” Ray says, as the Ecto 1 drives away and we cut back to the rookie, big grin on his face as the crowds continue to cheer. He throws a triumphant fist in the air and we zoom in on the GB badge on his arm. (I would say either keep it classic or do like many of the groups IRL have done and find something that combines the logo with the state flag.)
What do you think?

I think They should make the Sequel in the idea of Ackroyds original GB 3 script. I think From what I heard of Hellbent (the idea for GB3 that was scrapped) It would make a good game i think.

Also unfortunately given the interest Sony is suddenly showing in the franchise since may (hyping it up, having GB Month on PS Home, Restoring Ecto 1 to pristine condition etc) I have a bad feeling any Sequels might be PS3 Exclusives. Especially after how successful the game is.

Also a GTA Style Ghostbusters in LA with the Rookie along with Egon and Ray helping to set up the franchise would be awesome.

You are correct sir.. unfortunately Sony HAS bought out the Ghostbusters video game franchise.. which ■■■■■■ me off to no end - being an X Box 360 gamer.. who has no interest in the PS3..

All future Ghostbusters titles will be Sony exclusives, unfortunately.. and yes my information comes from a VERY reliable source.

I believe that should not happen. It should always involve the originals and the rook for future GB games. Plus I rather have the franchise in NYC. I like that more then LA, or Chicago, or Cincinati

I think we have to face it, company expansion is inevietable, whether in games or in movies. I myself welcome it with open arms. They’ve been hinting at it ever since before their first bust in GB1 (“the franchise rights alone…”). It excites me to no end to think about ghost busters in all the major cities all over the world!

I’m glad the games are pushing it that way and that it appears as though the next film will continue that way.

Just a thought though: If GB3 stays on the track it is now and we do see them begin to film later this year, I think the odds are better that the next GB game will be the GB3 game, or else something like the new terminator game, where it takes place shortly before or after GB3, tying into the film somehow. I don’t think it would be until after that we would see a truly original not ecessarily direct movie tie in story based game. I wouldn’t be suprised if Dan and Harold are sharing the script for the 3rd story as it’s written with the game team just to make sure that they have enough time and don’t fall in to the traps alot of directly tied in movie games fall into.

Well I’m use to the the four and possibly a new group working along side the originals. Not just them having an international succes[which is good]and they don’t do anything. Just read reports about Franchising succes and budgets they need and all that business mularcky. Plain and simple, work as a Ghostbuster in the field, not from an office. That sucks !!

I was afraid of that, Sony buying out the rights to future games. But they own the movies and they realize it can make them money so it was a certainty.

As for the games, I doubt Bill Murray would be into voicing sequels, he might have done it for the first game but i cant realistically see him doing more, The others, Well Dan is into anything Ghostbusters so at the least I can see Ackroyd in every GB game, and Maybe Ramis. I dont know much about Ernie to say but I think he would be likely into doing more. And if murray doesnt want to do more games, the only direction they can go in is expanding the franchise by having some of the guys mentoring the new team the Rook opens up somewhere. But if Ramis and Ackroyd write it, I dont think it’d be so bad. If Sony decides to just pump out games not even written by the guys and focused on a new team, that i think could fail.

As a side note, “The Return of the Ghostbusters” fanfilms are pretty good, and a sign that if done right, perhaps a spin off Game series involving the rook and his team could be very good.

He came back to do voice work for Garfield 2 did he not? ;-)…Even though that’s not a game it’s still voice work on a sequel…

Cheers.
