There was an episode where the Ghostbusters (I think it was Winston and Ray?) improvised a proton pack. They were in a town far away from New York, I remember some kind of band which always played a cool Jazz song or something like that.
It overheated when they used it and it exploded leaving a big crater in the ground.
Does anybody remember that episode?
Sadly the DVD edition is not available here in Austria so I cannot check it myself

Their equipment is mistakenly shipped by Courier to Hawaii, and so they’re forced to build a Modified Charged Particle Accelerator and Ectoplasmic Containment Module as replacements from parts and equipment they were able to scrounge from the Para-psychological Expo in Tulane.

I love the ghost in that one.. they were a Jazz band playing the Saints Go Marching on in jazz and they had White Eyes.. THey were like ghhost that were stuck or something.

Didn’t they do this twice? I don’t remember the episode but the Ghostbusters are ship wrecked on an island, Ray and Peter get possessed by two elementals with a grudge against each other, and Egon and Winston build a rather crude thrower. If I remember correctly it was powered by a cable attached to a metal rod that was held in a Lava flow by Slimer.
“Very Beast Friends” Yeah, there was a weapon the Ghostbusters wiki (since AJ’s doesn’t have a full entry yet) described as a “Thermal Powered Blaster”. There is a screen shot at that page:
And remember the time they built giant ghost traps/containment units from garbage trucks?
These kinds of episodes must have been due to the MacGyver mindset.

Yeah, that was “Bustman’s Holiday” then way later on made one in NYC in EGB’s “Back in Saddle” Part 2.
The weirdest ad hoc one had to be the washtub in “The Magnificient Five”
Eh, any of the gear invented after The Halloween Door could be justifiable dismissed.
