Injector Tube issues

Injector tubes, Today I installed them with gorilla glue and placed them on the Power Cell. I rubber band them, 5 hours later, the tubes started to slowly come off. What is a better way to install these tubes?

Did you take off the rubber bands?? You should be using clamps instead.. I usually leave gorilla glue to dry for almost a full 24 hours just to make sure its cures strong. Never less then 12 hours before i release the clamps.. Ive had nothing but bad expierince unclamping after just 5 hours although it says that it is ok to do so on the product

no I don’t have any clamps, I thought using rubber bands was a good idea at the time, well, I must do them all over again, thanks Phish, I know my dad has some clamps in his garage!

I just used screws for mine. Was a little bit tricky trying to get them in there, but once they were and I got the L bracket on its pretty solid.

Are your injectors hollow or solid?

Mine were solid resin and I did this to fix them to the pack (and the “filler plugs”):

I drilled a large hole in the end of the plug, then filled the hole with epoxy glue and dropped a bolt (head first) in to the glue:

Once cured, I bolted them through the shell (with a little epoxy between the injector/filler plug and the shell for added strength) and they are holding fast!

If your tubes are hollow, why not use a hole-saw, cut out a “disc” from a piece of timber that is just slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the injector, screw the disc to your pack then glue the tube OVER the disc:

Mine are MMM, they have only one side resin. i gorilla glued them in place now with clamps, I hope they come out ok. This is my first pack.

I’m sorry I keep adding post and post and not using the search menu. I need some help on this pack and I need some tips. I feel like I’m the only guy in this town building this! I would love to have help from all of you, because I respect the hardass work you all have done on your packs! The only help is my dad, but he has distress problems with his stomach from having stomach cancer 3 times in 5 years. So please help me out here guys! I will appreciate it all!

If you are using a shell, what kind are you using?? Then i can give you a better answer. Especially if you have pics.

Are you plugging the tubes with anything or just trying to glue around the rim?? I gorilla glued the MMM injector tubes i have to a plastic D-42 shell by cutting little squares, glued and clamped the tubes to the plastic. Then the next day after curing, released the clamps and shaved off all the extra plastic to round it off with the rest of the tubes.

I don’t have pics but here’s a thread that shows exactly what i did to the tubes before i installed them. I didn’t install them to the pack in the same fasion as he did on that thread tho. I just glued and clamped them on

Ok here’s an update, I sacrificed the clear glass on the goggles, I sanded them, cleaned it, and proceeded with using PVC cement. So right now, they are being glued on to this clear piece of plastic, when this is all done, I hope I can epoxy the clear plastic to the power cell. The shell is D-42’s shell, but I didn’t save any of the scrap…damn I knew should of saved that stuff! I wished I had a camera on me right now!

Dude, thank you so much for that site! That helped me big time! And thank you for your help!

Yeah you really shouldve saved all of the scrap. I plan on using the ABS that is leftover from my build to reinforce all of the weaker, more flexible areas by cutting bigger pieces and strips then just gluing and clamping them all over the inside of the shell to thicken it out anywhere i can. It should help keep the plastic much straighter and mounted stronger to the motherboard. . I’m sure you could find some cheap ABS or something else usuable at home depot, wal mart, anywhere lol.

what are the two smaller tubes? are they supposed to be the filler tubes and beam line? if so, they are wrong. they are both supposed to be the same size. thats just one of the problems with sevv’s shell kit.

For my injector tubes, I used white plumbing PVC, (which is the correct width) which I then glued fender washers onto the bottom of. Then to attach them to the powercell, I took some gray electrical PVC couplers, and glued them into the tops of the tubes. The end result looked similar to this drawing:

![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/tyger_cheex/Proton Pack_injectorsolution.png)

Because the hole in the top of the couplers was larger than seen here, I before gluing them in place, I first put a smaller washer inside the coupler, and then put a bolt through that. Then I simply drilled holes for the bolts through the bottom of the power cell.

This is a very secure method of attaching the injector tubes, and it allows you to remove them later. If you simply glue the tubes on, they’re going to snap off the first time someone yanks on them.

Yes they are… and once mounted they are the same length! One sits on the cosmetic plating.

Sorry but you are mistaken and there’s nothing wrong with Sevv’s shell (unless there’s something wrong with Stefan’s plans?) Check out this from the plans section on GBFans!

The Filler Plugs and Beam Line are the same length, but one sits on the cosmetic plating so I had to cut the other one shorter so they were both the same length when mounted:

You can juuuust see they are the same length in this picture too!

Just out of curiosity, what are the other problems, if that’s “just one”??

Vince is saying the tubes should start off the same height so when mounted they sit at different heights…

Ahhhhh shit! Sorry Vince, I was working to Stefan’s plans and they both appear to be the same height on that so I hacked up Sevv’s kit accordingly!

So… Sevv’s kit is still fine (since I cut the tubes down myself)

Stefan’s plans are wrong, unless this is some difference between GB1 and GB2 packs? (He says, hopefully?) :frowning:

Yeah.

His plans have several known issues with measurements..

There is something very simple that I still don’t understand fully. I’m talking about parts of the proton pack like the injector tubes.

It’s the same issue as the PPD, Ion arm, vacuum tube… All my parts are aluminum. I just can’t figure out how those parts are installed on the shell. I know it’s very simple.

I made a drawing of what I THINK those parts are installed on the shell. Tell me if I’m wrong. In this case, it’s the injector tubes.

Are your injector tubes welded to a plate, or are they just 2 pieces of aluminum tubing?

Having the tubes welded to a plate helps tremendously, as the top plate is usually tapped for 1/4-20 screws for easy installation. That’s the easiest method, at least in my opinion.

It’s to a plate.

I can understand that it is already tapped but I think it’s only for a few millimeter tick… Is that enough for the tubes to be solid?

As long as that plate is tapped, you’re ok

There’s also an “L” bracket towards the ends of the tubes that helps stiffen them against the shell.
