JME1979 Trap Build

I have started my first trap build and figured I’d post up my progress. So far so good.

can anyone tell me where i can get the switch and light for the trap, and a tutorial on the wiring and such.

Best stuff is from Collin ( http://www.multimediamayhem.net/spectrecatcherparts.htm )

Or i found a fairly cheap electronics kit of your looking for something simple

Hope that helps .

The switch is available at most Radio Shacks.

There are a couple people offering the correct red lens in the for sale section but you’ll have to dig a bit to find them. Alternatively I’ve seen a few on ebay lately or you could order them from here: http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?SKU=6794631&MPN=4631. That site has a minimum order but you can also get some of the knobs from there as well, see this thread for more info: GBFans.com

As far as lighting do you want it to blink or remain steady? Will you be lighting the front indicator as well or just the battery box? How much electronics experince do you have?

I’d like the light to blink, yes i would like the front indicator to work and i have 0% exp. in electronics.

Looks very neat and clean! Look forward to seeing more

I agree. Looks very clean.

Good choice of wood.

I don’t know too much about electronics so I can’t help with the front indicator, but radio shack sells red blinking LED bulbs you can buy. The bulb itself blinks so you’d just need to hook it up to a power source and attach a switch

well i had to redo my trap shells cause i found out i made some mistakes, now i have it down right, i’m also building two, one for me and one for a friend. Sorry about the poor pics.

Can someone please tell me what the diameter the holes are on the battery section for the toggle switch and light are?

LED’s are typically 5mm, the switch depends on what switch you buy, typically 3/16" or 1/4" works.

Lighting the front indicator, the method you’ll need, will depend massively on if you intend to have your cartridge removeable or not.

You can run it all on one power source if you don’t make the cartridge removeable, and of course, if you do, you’ll have to go with 2 power supplies and seperate circuits if you have no electronics experience.

If you really want to go crazy you can put contacts between your catridge and trap shell that allow you to use one power supply. I chose not to, but I’ve got a plan in mind that would use those old electronic car track contact points which would touch each other when you put the cartridge in and let it light up, but only when the cartridge is connected. The benefit: One power supply, the downside, your cartridge indicator wouldn’t light up when separated.

G

finally able to start working on my traps again..

Impressive work there.

What type of wood are you using? Is that pine?

Keep the pictures coming along.

Ted.

Thanks! I’m using poplar wood. It’s pretty sturdy and doesn’t cost much.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, poplar is great for building props.

Ted.

looks really clean! cant wait to see more.

Finally get a chance to work on my trap again. Still have lots to do to it.

Very pretty.

Again.. finally able to work on it again..
