Kenner GB toys...What else would you want?

If you could go back to when Kenner first started making the figures, vehicles and playsets what else would you have them make? My choice would be a playset for the Statue of Liberty. I imagine it about the height of the FireHouse but with hinges so it would open up with the figures inside. Maybe a few stairs and of course a mini-NES controller that the figures “steer” miss liberty with, haha!

What would be you suggestions??

GBman, Man o’ man there’s so much I would have want to have seen from Kenner, there’s so many wonderful things that could have been produced. A Grundel, a Boogieman, a Sam hain, a Sand man, The Spectral Ghostbusters, a set of the four Ghostbusters wearing the Tan jumpsuits like in the movies, a No Ghost Logo (like the Minimates did). I love the idea of a statue of Liberty and in fact I believe that it should have been a part of a Giants of The Ghostbusters realm set that would have consisted of a Giant Statue of liberty, a Giant Murray the Mantis and of course a Mr. Stay puft Marshmallow man. This is really just to name a few of the many great things that could have come to be but sadly never will and of course it would have really been cool if the unproduced Kenner Real Ghostbusters toys in this link were made:

You know…when I was little, I thought they where coming out with the Statue of Liberty playset because of the slimed heroes commercial that came out around the time of GB 2…

guess it did not happen. :*(

SeikoVoiceNote29, wasn’t that a complete rip off? I always hated that about the old toy commercials, they always had the coolest damn dioramas and than when they would realese a playset for the figures they would always fall really short.

More stuff to tie into Ghostbusters II like a Vigo action figure, a Giga Meter, and action figures based on the other ghosts appearing in the film.

Also I would have loved to have seen more action figures based ghosts/ other villians that appeared in the show like Sam Haine, the Grundel, The Sand Man, The Boogeyman, Spectral Ghostbusters, Killer Watt, and many more. Another dream idea of mine is would be to haKenner had teamed up with Data East or Activision to make a video game for the NES, Gameboy and other game systems of this era.

I still shake my head wondering what cerebral failures at Kenner and/or Columbia kept a best selling toy line and a big budget movie with a natural and obvious mutual tie-in value from not exploiting it for all it’s worth. All we got was an ECTO-1 with a different sticker set and the Slime Blower/Ecto-Charger, and that was it. In my own dream world…

Reissues of the Series 1 figures with the GB2 logos on their shoulders (ala the Now GB2 adaptation)

Ray and Winston figures with Slime Blowers.

Louis in one of Egon’s flight suits. I even probably would have bought it at the time and I can’t stand their use of Louis in GB2.

Vigo, of course.

The other thing that makes me shake my head. The show created so many popular, memorable, and distinct-looking (the last part being important for toy purposes) villains and Kenner would rather put out possessed bathroom fixtures.

A to scale Containment Unit room, with a large CU. (Not the tiny one that came with the firehouse) Then the back would be what it looks like INSIDE the unit.

I concur with more ghosts from the series. In fact, other than the bug-eye, and bad to the bone, I’d rather have JUST ghosts that showed up in the series rather than every other ghost or Ghostbuster Variant.

I would also love to a proper two seat Ecto 2, PKE Meter and Ghost Trap with working lights and sounds, an Ecto1 with Lights and Sirens.

Also prior to the appearence of Marine Ecto 8 in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, I always thought that the Ghostbusters needed a boat in thier vehicle fleet.

I think a good start would have been ANY ghost that was actually in the cartoon. Even as a kid I could never understand why I never had a Murray the Mantis or Drool the dogfaced gremlin to name a few. I dont really count slimer and Stay Puft since they were in the movie.

You know, that’s a really good point WCW. None of the villains produced for the line were from the show or ever made it into the show for that matter. It seems like action figure lines weren’t overly expansive until the TMNT line came out. It would be amazing to see jointed reissues of the RGB line with show accurate gear. I mean look at the TMNT Classic series that just came out. They are based on the cartoon likenesses and boast 34 points of articulation! Could you imagine RGB figures in the same vein?

DarkSpectre thats true man the new TMNT are really cool! Im considering buying a few of them for me and my son. At least the minimates gave us a few characters from the show.

Highway Haunter converted into Murray the Mantis.

Also I would have loved to see a Janine action figure based on apperence in uniform opposite the Ghostbusters in Janine’s Genie.

Just wanted to say anyone with a NegaDuck avatar is a friend in my book..

Thanks, GBman! NegaDuck was one of the best villains ever.

And his figure was gonna come to be in the unproduced second series of Dark Wing Duck figures.

I didn’t worry about it. He’s an easy custom–I just bought a second Darkwing and painted him like Negaduck.

Now I wonder where I put all those figures…damn…

No joke ! I had an extra Darkwing Duck figure as a kid and my Mom painted him up as Negaduck, so yeah, I was pretty stoked to have it since they never made him in that line.

True but the Negaduck sculpt had that evil face that the Darkwing just didn’t have but still, I can picture a pretty cool custom.

Sam Haine is one of my top pics for characters that should have become toys when The Real Ghostbiusters was airing on television. Thankfuly the Mattel version and Minimate figure make up for him not being made. Also I would have loved to have gotten the People Busters in toy form. After having seen some customs that fans have made, I am sure if Kenner had made them back in the day they would have sold well.
