Leg Hose Connector Tutorial

Here’s how I made a fairly accurate leg hose connector. Click on any image for a larger version.

Parts:

1/2" Electrical PVC Coupler

1/2" Electrical PVC Terminating Adaptor

.08 sheet styrene

.01 sheet styrene

Kneadatite Green Stuff Putty

Krazy Glue

A note on tools, I could list what I used but everyone has their favorites and access to different things so I’m going to leave it generic. If you’re having trouble with something either PM me or ask on the boards here.

A note on dimensions, I just eyeballed the whole thing. I started out wanting to have the flared end like MMM’s and GBFreek83’s but after looking at what reference photos there are I decided half way through the build to get rid of it. I also originally intended the whole thing to be vertical lines but again after looking at reference I noticed there was a slight angle to the bottom section and added it halfway through the build.

Ok, so starting off you put the adapter inside the coupler, leaving the adapter sticking out about a quarter inch and secure it with Krazy glue. If I get PMs asking how to do this I’m going to hurt somebody. :sigh:

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6473.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6473.jpg)

The inside diameter of the adapter is a bit too large to hold a 1/2 inch hose so it needs to be reduced again. Fortunately the container that Krazy Glue comes in is the perfect size.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6470.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6470.jpg)

So strip off the label.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6472.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6472.jpg)

and cut it to length so it fits flush in the tubes.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6475.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6475.jpg)

Next up I took a strip of .01 styrene one inch wide:

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6476.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6476.jpg)

and wrapped it around the base of the coupler adding Krazy glue as I went. Again, just eyeballing the thickness it took me 2 strips about 13 inches long.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6477.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6477.jpg)

After giving the glue time to dry I realized it was a little too long overall so I cut about 3/16 off the bottom.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6478.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6478.jpg)

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6479.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6479.jpg)

This is the point I decided to taper the bottom section a little bit. I cut a circle of .01 styrene with a slightly larger diameter than the coupler and glued it to the bottom.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6481.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6481.jpg)

I then filled in the space with Kneadatite, a two-part epoxy putty. I also smoothed over the end at the same time. Once dry I sanded it all down. It was at this point I decided to not do the end flare and sanded down the adapter.

Last up was the base which is two circles of .08 styrene glued together. Before attaching the base I drilled some pilot holes for the attachment points. I plan on casting mine so I didn’t drill all the way through. If you’re just making one I’d suggest finishing the holes.

[![image](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_th_IMG_6487.jpg)](http://www.gbfans.com/images/pb/jackdoud/Ghostbusters_Hose Connector_IMG_6487.jpg)

And that’s that. If you’re just making one I’d suggest glueing the plastic pieces together with model glue instead of Krazy glue as it will weld the plastic and keep it from snapping apart later.

And here are shots of my cast version next to the original:

Wow!

Great job!

When can we expect them for sale!?

Some time this week actually. I’m working out cost and shipping. Since it’d be my first time selling on these boards I’m planning on taking it easy and limiting the run size just to test the waters. If it works out well I’ll expand the run.

Some very nice work, Jack.

I wouldn’t be surprised if your test run sells out quickly, with the way things have gone in recent months, leg hose connectors are highly sought-after.

depending on the price, i’ll take 3!

Looks just like mine

Nice work

Those will go very fast! Hell of a job!

Put me down for one!!! - let me know the price etc. once sorted. :vinzclortho:

Very cool indeed. I’m curious to know why you felt the need to remove the flare?

Just a concensus I reached after looking at what reference I could find.

image

Looking at it again there may be a bit of a flare on them. Not something I’m too worried about and in truth not having the flare makes them easier to cast anyway. :whatever:

Looks great Id take two

Nice tutorial! I might break down and do this. For the longest time I’ve just been without the leg hose. But I should have some free time this weekend.

nice and easy to understand tutorial! but wat are those measurments? ist it inche? i only know metrical (millimeter, mm)

if u could tell me what 1/2" is in millimeter, it would be helpfull!

thanks!

aha, thanks! 1,5 inche is about 25,4 mm, so i can use an M25 tube!
