Lego Ghostbusters with Customized Brick Forge Gear - Video

Hey gang! I just wanted to share my latest video with you. It’s a build and review of the Lego Ghostbusters set. I also take a look at the aftermaket offerings from Brick Forge and NACM and the customizations I did to them.

Here are a few pics.

I hadn’t given any thought to painting the gear. Not sure I like the hand-painted look next to the crisp pad-printed pieces, but I have to admit your Ecto-Goggles look awesome.

I’ve purchased those same ‘aftermarket’ upgrades for mine. I also got some custom-printed ghost trap pieces.

(That’s Rotta the Hutt filling in for Slimer.)

And I’ve been buying the custom minifigs from Australia’s “brickinit”. Here’s a shot of ‘the Destructor’.

I’ve also got ‘Zooly’ but have been waiting on ‘Vince’ to arrive before I take any new photos.

There are a couple of older pieces that go well with a Lego GB display also… like the classic ‘sheeted’ ghosts from the Monster Fighters line, and of course the Statue of Liberty. I also found some ‘caution striped’ bricks from older LEGO sets… I may build a larger trap using those for the doors.

(Sorry they’re so small, that’s the only pic I’ve got online that shows those pieces with them.)

Alex

How much did those custom Trap pieces cost to produce, and where did you go to in order to get them made?

I don’t remember how I found out about them, probably in a post shared by someone else, but here’s the website where I bought them. They were only $2 each.

Prowling around, I see they have custom versions of the GB’s…

Ooh, here’s something I didn’t know they had. I should get this to go with the Statue of Liberty!

Alex

Speaking of the Statue of Liberty, I wish I’d gotten this LEGO set when I saw it in the Lego Shop-At-Home catalogue about fifteen years ago.

image

She’s 33 inches tall, nearly 3 feet high.

It would look amazing to put little LEGO GB’s inside her crown.

Alex

Thanks for the links. Got four Traps ordered.

I wish I had that Statue of Liberty as well. Sadly she’s ridiculously expensive.

Thanks, I guess we’re on opposite sides of the coin. When I got my Brick Forge gear it looked too bleak to my eye and was perfect for adding some colour to. I don’t see the ‘hand painted’ look to be detracting, quite the opposite, I rather like it. It makes it pop.

I will eventually get a Destructor, Zooly and Vince. For now I have a couple of spooky girls that make great creepy ghost twins and a ghost Vitruvius and a few others.

I added glow in the dark features to my gear as well.

Did anyone like the video?

This video really made my day even better. Thank You for sharing.

And your comment has made my day even better. Thank you very much for the kind words.

Hey Kingpin, how you doing? It has been quite some time, good sir.

I’m holding up, though there’s more gray in my hair these days then brown. :stuck_out_tongue:

Right on, glad to hear you’re well. I have a few more grey’s myself, a few more wrinkles, too, lol.

Btw, it’s not just the Statue of Liberty that’s ridiculously high priced, all discontinued Lego stuff seems to appreciate quite quickly. I am saddened that they just discontinued the Monster Fighter series, I was just starting to grab sets from this collection. Now ebay is pretty much my only option, and, whew, are the prices high. I’m not complaining, it is how it is, I’ll get sets as I can afford them.

Alex, I was looking over that site that offers the traps and they have a lot of great stuff, not just Ghostbusters related. I’ll be getting a few things from them soon. Thanks for sharing.

Their site did have an option for pre-ordering all three in a larger box with exclusive artwork. I’d already ordered the Destructor and Zooly, which arrived in little generic BrickinIt matchboxes (inside a large padded mailer envelope, of course) so I missed out.

Looking at their site, they don’t seem to have that three-together option anymore, but maybe I’m not looking in the right spots.

You’re welcome! I liked their custom GB’s set, though I’ve got mixed feelings on their ‘Slimer’ sculpt. But I too saw lots of nifty items, had to calm down before I placed a big order.

Alex

Yeah, I’m not sold on the ‘slimer’ either. They could have at least given him arms.

My Vince minifig arrived today, as did my ‘advantage’ controller plate.

I also took some pics with the Monster Fighters ghosts and some Minimates Terror Dogs.

Alex

So, did anyone save the pics of the prototype ‘Vince’, with the poofy hair? They seem to have all disappeared from the BrickinIt site.

The closest I can find is this hand-built one from the guy who gave them permission to use his design…

… but the hair doesn’t quite look the same. I think this is the hair that BrickinIt used for the Destructor, so they put something similar but different on Vince before deciding to go with more generic hair. (Which I think doesn’t look right with his disheveled clothes.)

Anyone got a suggestion for an existing LEGO hair that I can put on my Vince to make him look like he’s filled with the strength of the Vuldronnai?

Alex

P.S.

While searching on FB for pics, look what I found!

Impressive. Most impressive.

P.P.S.

I chatted with BrickinIt via FB today and was told the original hair they used for Vince was indeed the same one for the Destructor, but in brown.

They gave me a couple of neat suggestions for upcoming projects, though!

P.P.P.S. - 3/2/15

I had to order the hair-with-headphones piece, but I had all the other stuff already, including Dobby. This was one of the things BrickinIt told me other fans had done with their custom Vince head.

Of course, I had to put the BrickForge thrower into his left hand.

I’ve also ordered several LEGO pieces from eBay and BrickLink, and a few more compatible custom items from BrickForge. Can’t wait to get them all in and start assembling.

AN

You can’t get the Ghost Hunter/Ghost Scientist sets from Brick Forge anymore, but you can order the individual parts.

I needed one extra ‘particle pack’ and one extra ‘particle gun’ for my custom Louis to have his own. I also got the glow-in-the-dark flask of ecto goo, which I’d never bought before. You can see a glimpse of it in Egon’s hand.

The tubing connecting the guns to the packs was purchased from smalljoes.com, part of their replacement supplies for 80’s G.I.Joe figures. It’s a little snug to fit over the Brick Forge pegs, but it can be done.

I also ordered some Brick Forge headlamps and flashlights to go with these ‘tunnel exploration’ minifigs. All the other parts seen here are regular Lego’s. I haven’t yet painted the attached hair of the hardhats to match the GB’s hair pieces, so they’ve just been digitally darkened here.

The hardhats with attached hair work better for the GB heads than the plain hardhats do, because of the other face on the rear of their heads. The hair hides those from view.

Alex

Nice work! And thanks for the tip on the hoses, I was in need of some for my own BrickForge pieces.

The first chance I get I want to get some Brick Forge gear for my Lego Ghostbusters. Also in the near future, I would love to get some Lego pieces to make a Lego version of the Firehouse as well.

That tears it, next time I might finally pull the trigger on some of that custom Lego Ghostbusters stuff.

Cool paint job, I think I’m gonna have to buy an extra brickforge set of proton packs to paint some myself.
