Well, I am a Ghostbusters fan from Arizona. I have been a fan since I watched the first Ghostbusters movie at the age of four. First and foremost I am a John Candy fan, and have my own fanclub on myspace. I was happy to see that John Candy was supposed to be in the original GB, but it went to Rick Moranis due to scheduling issues. Anyway, I happened across this set when I finally told myself that I was going to build a proton pack. I have wanted to build one as long as I can remember, but just never got around to it. My Grandfather thought it was an awesome idea when I told him about it one day, and every now and then he would ask me when I was going to start the project. I kept telling him “when I get around to it”. One day, he came over with a round bean bag and on the front of it the words “To It” were stiched to it. He told me "here, now you have a round to it, so get started on the proton pack. About a month later he passed away from a massive stroke, and he never got to see me make it. So now I am really wanting to make one in his honor. I printed all the plans, put them in a really nice 3-ring binder (spent nearly $30 on the supplies for the binder alone), and now I am just sitting here watching the months go by wondering if i can get it done before Halloween. I understand the plans for the most part, but I never do anything half assed. I am wanting to do this project to where it looks as if I own the original. I also don’t want to use wood as my base parts. So I have been researching on how to make a vacuum mold, one strong enough to make a decent thickness of the wooden prototype parts. Any advice anyone has or suggestions they think might help I am all ears.
Welcome aboard! Might I suggest you check out the Arizona Ghostbusters, they seems to be getting bigger than a twinkie in that part of the country.
Welcome.
I’m sorry to hear about your Grandfather. Definitely make that pack.. it is a very rewarding thing to do.
Start pecking away at it now, little bits here and there, and you’ll have it done in time.
Don’t do what I did and build a shrapnel-pack the day before. Ugh.
Welcome!
Welcome aboard! Good to know there are still John Candy fans around. ![]()
Thanks everyone. I have decided to do a few things to get my project going and to feel like I am getting somewhere. First, I am going to try and purchase the flight suit, and finishe the suit asap. At least that way I can look at it for inspiration. I am also going to visit the local army surplus stores (there are many here) and see if I can find the pack that contains the base that I need to start the pack. If anything I might be able to at least find the flight suit.
