Okay guys, I need your help. I just bought a 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T. I’ve resigned myself to the realization that I’ll never own a '59 Miller & Meteor and even if I did, I wouldn’t have the know-how to restore it properly. I’ve already bought the “No-Ghost” magnet for the doors. I’d like to add two lightbars to the roof. I want them to be blue like the original ECTO-1. I don’t want to use the Code 3 Force 4 XL lightbars because those belong to the '59 Cadillac. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

From what I’ve seen, blue lights are illegal on POVs in Pennsylvania. About mounting your lightbars, do you plan on drilling them in?

You need LED lightbars. Really low ones.. and get blue. They don’t show color when turned off.

But.. you can get them so that they hook in under the door jambs.. and have rubber feet that sit on the roof.
Since you also have a sunroof.. you can make your wiring temporary (the whole setup should be.) and just run it through there.
Magnetic lights are an option. You’ll have to clear-bra the areas on your car where you want to attach them if you don’t want any damage. As far as the LED bars go, personally I would NEVER rig those up as magnetic, they are just too damn expensive to not be bolted to a car.
As a firefighter I can tell you that you generally need state issued permits for any color other than amber. Even for purple lights which are generally used for funeral directors.
Check with your states department of public safety. Explain to them what your intentions are, that your trying to make a movie accurate replica of a vehicle. You MAY be able to pull something off that way… but Im not 100% posative. Different states also have different polocies. In CT Firefighters and EMS use blue and green lights respectivley, fire/ems officers use combination red/clear and police use combination red/blue. While other states, police may use all blue and firefighters use red.
I have blue light permits for the State of CT for my POV… I sometimes think of how wierd that would be though, to respond to a call in an ecto-mobile.
As far as the suggestion of using an LED lightbar… good call but dont follow that as if youll get away with it. The police may question it, ask you to produce a permit and possibly even switch them on for proof if ever stopped.

As for a roof-rack problem…
Since you may want to put “other stuff” besides the lightbar on the top of your car, I believe there are roof-rack designs that can ‘strap’ to your car almost.
I’ve been searching for a little bit (I’ll admit, haphazardly) for them, but since I only have a 2002 Nissan Sentra (TINY CAR!) there is no point in really looking far into it. I need a car worthy of being an Ecto before I can REALLY look.
Anyway, point being, I’m sure you can easily fabricate a roof-rack that ‘comes off’, maybe one that leaves the lightbar but the standard ecto-stuff can come off so you don’t risk vandalism when you go to the mall for new shoes or somethin’.
