So after years and years of being in awe of everyone who has made movie & show packs, this year I decided that it was time to join the club. I’ve always loved the show design of the pack more, just the overall design and color scheme appealed to me more. Based off of the design sheets from the DVD set, I did all the design work, my Dad & Grandfather build it, and my mom helped with dying the knee pads, suit & ironing the logo onto the suit. So here it is. . .
This is the first time since about 1988 that I’ll be going as a Ghostbuster for Halloween, but dang wearing all that, it really does feel like I was born to wear this stuff.
I’ll post more pictures later that show the progression of how we made the pack.
And must apologize as I now realized I should have just worn the pads on the elbows and not the knees too. I concentrated so hard on the details of the pack, and yet I miss that detail on the suit.
Well done! I like the RGB packs a lot, and you’re right, the DVD box set does come with some nice drawings. That’s pretty nice yellow tube. Where’d you get that?
Yeah, loose the knee pads, and if you really want that RGB-look, dye your collar and the ends of sleeves (and maybe pants), probably pink since you have the bluish suit like Egon.
Thanks everyone. I’ll try and get the progression pictures online tomorrow. I went to the tech school I’m attending in full gear today and won their costume contest. Plus everyone wanted to know how I made it and if it was heavy. Answer to the second question was always, “Yeah, it’s 20 pounds worth of heavy”. I’m going to walk around downtown in my hometown tomorrow morning to see what looks & comments I get.
Yeah, the knee pads were left home today, just wore the ones on my elbows. The hose came from Lowe’s back in the plumbing department. I thought about dying the collar and ends of the sleeves and leggings, but there wasn’t time.
I think so. The hardest part was trying to guess the measurements of something that hasn’t existed in real life, but I think it all came out pretty good. The only thing that came out a bit off I think was the width of the Proton Gun Box, mine is just a bit too skinny.
Oh, and one more thing. I’m sure everyone as a kid remembers how the hose of the KennerProton Pack would always pop off the pack itself after a while, well, it was as if I was back to being a kid again, because in the afternoon, even after using really strong compound glue, the hose popped out of the pack. Gonna have to take some more drastic measures to get that hose to stay put.
