Sorry I don’t quite understand the forst part of the question, If you are asking how much it has cost me so far I can tell you it has cost me $10 for the foam (4 pieces 2ft x 2ft I have only used 2 so far) Glue sticks about $5.00. Thats it, $5 worht of the foam and $5 for glue sticks everything else I have found laying around the house. I will be more then happy to weigh it for you once it is done. I can tell you right now though that my 2 year ol boy can pick this up with one hand. it is so light.
Thats pretty amazing from foam! Did you slice those ridges in the bumper, and just glue them up?
I’m impressed. Keep it coming.
What are you going to do for the gun?
That’s actually pretty cool!
Great job so far!! This is one of the best “Bang for your buck” packs i’ve ever seen!!
Thanks guys, I appreciate the words. And yes I Just cut the foam almost all the way up and then just glued the it back together offset.
GREAT method and cleverness!
Looks awesome! If you can do THAT with foam I’d love to see the magic you can cook up with some styrene ![]()
Sweet !
wow…
Something I thought about.. that gunbox really needs to be rigid to support the gun.
Since you are ading a rigid motherboard, you could possibly add an L shaped corner for the gun attachement.
What are the white strips you using there for the detail ribbing?
LOL I have been thinking the same thing about the gun box. I am going to make pretty much just what you said about an L bracket. Not sure how I am going to have the Gun stay on the gun box yet though, I can’t find dixie cup things anywhere. I am going to the city tomorrow and will have good look around. I was thinking maybe earth magnets I have used them before to keep face plates on helmets and stuff. But I will see. As for the for the detail ribbing it is just more foam, it comes in a roll of about 6 feet by 2 feet and is underlay for sleeping bags cost around $5 for a roll from the local bargain store. Not very good for using under a sleeping bag (It is too cheap and thin) but works great for crafts, I used some on my Ironman already and works great.
There are picture hanger brackets many of us use at Ace Hardware. If they are out of stock, your local store can also order them. (I’m pretty sure I posted a pic of the package in my photo folder.) if not, I think I listed the sku in my build thread.
I really like them, as they are very secure, and easy to pull. Also, make sure you check what angle you want yours at.. every persons is a little different, I think because of height.
Thanks I appreciate the adivce, I took a look your budget pack build last night, its awesome. I have a question I was about to ask you via facebook chat but you logged off, the jogging stick you used does it flash or is it just a battery opperated glow stick? I found one at the local book store but it takes three clicks to get it in flash mode and I need something that flashes first time.
WHOA, now that is the most unique, fresh approach to a pack I’ve seen in a long time! This’ll probably turn out to be the best looking pack for under 100 bucks seen in ages.
Respect, man. Any chance this pack is gonna see Dragon*Con? I’d like to shake your hand!
Oh man I wish, but not this year. I am hoping maybe in a few years, My oldest boy is 7 1/2 and really wants to go so I figured in a few years. Thank you for the awesome compliments.
Holy cow!
This is truly astonishing. I’m currently helping a friend make an Aperture Science Hand-Held Portal Device, and he wants to make the white shelled parts from the same foam mat stuff you’re using, 'cause of IndyMogul:

I really didn’t have much faith in the stuff, but after seeing this, as well as your IronMan… well… This build you’re doing is absolutely inspirational. Stunt pack better than the real thing! Rock on!
This makes me want to try this method! Are you planning on reinforcing it from the inside somehow? Like maybe a coat of fiberglass/resin?
