lookng to buy a proton pack

hello all!

for some time i’ve been lookimg to add a proton pack replica to my collection of movies props. now i know most of you who post to this are going to say buy the parts and make it myself. thats all well and fine, but i’m not good at prop building… at all. also you need time and right now with a 3yr and 6m old, time is a luxury i never have. so i’m lookimg for you guys to tell me who makes the best Proton Pack out there. so far ive heard of a guy named phantom blaster and the second is Bobs prop shop. any info you can pprovide would be most excellent

thanks,

anthony

Although I am unfamiliar with Phantom Blaster, Bob’s Prop Shop should be strongly avoided. I don’t think anyone here would disagree with that.

Bob has threatened, bullied and attempted to blackmail his “competitors” and also builds props that are not only overpriced, but of very poor quality. Read his feedback thread here here to get a better picture of Bob.

Also, check the For Sale section. I am sure there will be some builders who can help you out with a Proton Pack.

You could look to ebay but be careful as sideshow bob sells alot on there. There is a pack on ebay now thats not bobs but needs an alice frame, gun and labels which wouldnt take much. Believe its at buy it now for $550.00 not sure who the seller is for sure but didnt have any of the multiple names bob uses. Happy hunting!

I would check to see any of the builders here are available to do a commission for you.

I know at Nick o tron and Vincenzo330 do amazing commissions so maybe start by speaking to either of them.

Ebay should be avoided unless you know who the seller is, far too many people get ripped off there, and as the other guys have said it’s Bobs playground.

This brings a fair question, what would be a fair price for a complete, or mostly complete pack? That way the OP has an idea of what he would need to spend versus trying to act fast on ebay and spending more for less.

That is in no way shape or form an easy answer. It all depends on what they want. Do they want a fiberglass shell? Resin parts? Metal parts? Real parts where required? Vintage everything? Sound? Lights? What kind of pack? Hero? Semi-Hero? Hero retrofitted? Stunt? GB1? GB2?

I will say it seems completed packs go between $2,000-$3,500.

I’ve seen some quality packs come from builders on this site for like $1500… you just need to be patient and stick around long enough for those to pop up… Since being on these boards since like March, I’ve seen at least 3 great packs go on sale for some pretty good prices…

I would echo what the others have been saying, stay away from Ebay and keep an eye on the for sale thread and talk

to some of the guys that do commissions about getting a pack.

I would also recommend that you spend a few evenings reading up on the details of the movie packs to get a feel

of what it should look like and definitely check out some of the builds people have done, this way if you do end up getting

one on Ebay you will be better equipped to sniff out the good from the bad.

And as always check out the Feedback page in the main forum and the Blacklisted Sellers in the For Sale page before

buying, there are people out there like Bob that talk a big game but the quality and finish are not worth what they are charging.

Good pack hunting!
