I am trying to set up a temporary sound system for my pack using the downloaded MP3’s and an ipod but was wondering how to rig the ipod controls so they can be used via the gun ?
Do I have to stick the ipod on the side of the gun ( looks naff) or is there a remote or extension to the wired system available ?
Any suggestions would be very welcome…
Your best bet would be to not even go the ipod route…
at first i thought of this same idea.. i was going to buy a cheap $10 mp3 player with some speakers and set them up under the alice frame to play sounds and music if i wanted but then i realized that the speakers would need an amp to hear anything outside…
unless your in a room with just yourself you will not be hearing any of your sounds effects with some ipod and speakers hooked up on it
im not here to ruin your parade or idea, or squash it at all, i love the idea it just hurts when its all put together and you can barely hear anything after doing all the work…

I rigged up a speaker and small personal 9v amp into my pack so that I could play music…but I just keep the mp3 player in my pocket and control the volume and tracks from there.
As for rigging one up into the gun, the only way I could think to do this is if they sell a headphone set with remote controls on the wire. You could then rip it all apart and solder the connections to the switches in the gun so you can operate the controls. A lot of confusing work unless you know what you are doing.
If you are going to put a speaker in, you will need to hook it up to an amplifier. I bought an old Radio Shack personal amp for under $20 and disconnected the tiny speaker and rigged it up to my larger one. Works perfectly that way. The amp gives the signal more boost than if you just plugged the speakers directly to the iPod.
They also sell battery powered desktop sized speakers which are pretty nice / loud.
I was actually curious about the speakers so I may as well as it here. If I ordered a proptronix sound kit, would I need to put the speakers inside the cyclotron or outside on the mobo or what? Is there any standard way?

take off the speaker and wire the output to the input of your speakers and you’ve essentially got a whole sampler capable of storing 10 songs and 10 sound effects on a standard SD card!
