Just because the 2012 sub is not going forward and the total 6" figs will go from 6(7 with sub fig) to 4 does not mean 6" is dead. We have other plans and as we get to 2013 we are still looking strong at the GB property and the 6" scale in terms of what we can put out for fans and through what channels. 2012 did get cut a bit due to low sub sales, but the 6" scale is still kicking. Remember, the GB world is not as vast as say DC or even MOTU. We want to fill all the holes too in terms of variants and original characters left to do from Movie 1, 2 and the video game. And 6" is not the only scale we are looking at. A lot of potential is still to be unlocked. Stay tuned for more!
reverie: Oh, and on top of the price increase- thank you Matty for making us also have to pay more in shipping since we conveniently can’t combine shipping with the other subs we may have.
ToyGuru: as announced earlier this week we are still working on this, we just haven’t confirmed everything is set yet. But we are doing everything we can to find a way to make this happen. As for the price increase, non sub holders (day of buyers) would still have had a price increase as are all day of products in 2012 (we simply can’t keep 2009 pricing in 2012). We had to cancel the sub because at such a low buy in we could not afford the tooling on the additional planned figures. Because we had to go down to 4 figures and the sub was sold in as 7 figures our only option was to cancel the sub and replace with day of sales for the figures we could go through with. We know this isn’t a perfect option but with where we were this was deemed the best
One thing about all the variants, for a line like GB they are not filler, they are the lifeblood. For a low quota collector line you need low tool figures to help off set the high tool figures. It is one of the reasons MOTUC works so well. For every Sorceress of Ram Man you have a ton of Fistos and Webstors. It is the same for GB. Courtroom Peter and Labcoat Ray help pay for Vince Clortho. And just because you aren’t seeing your favorite variant or all new character in 2012 doesn’t mean we won’t get to them down the road. We are still working out details of 2013! Stay tuned.
It is amazing to see how many great GB toys we have gotten to. From movie 1 figs to Walter Peck, a giant Stay Puft and Movie 2’s big villain. As I stated earlier 2012 is not the end of 6 inch. We just had to cut three of the planned figures. With a new film on the horizon and brewing interest from the fan base we are still committed to get to some of those major MIA figures. The biggest issue is the tooling. Almost all of the non variants are 100% tool. At the relatively low quota we do on GB that makes them a little tricky to do. You may not get your favorite tomorrow, but if you look back over the last three years there have been some amazing figs and having to cut to four in 2012 is not the end of 6".
Dana the Rookie and Peter in lab coat are already tool’d they are coming for sure! Plus we are still looking at what we can do in the 6" world in 2013 and beyond.
Yes, the four figures next year are:
1: Peter in labcoat with Camera, Taci Ghost and ghost stand.
2: Dana with sitting and standing lower torsos and bench
3: Rookie with trap and orange light effect
4: Figure to be announced.
I know you guys are frustrated. Just know we are doing everything we can to keep GB going and doing these four is one way of doing that. Try to look at this in terms that you are still getting four great new figs with the potential for more in 2013. I’m note trying to mock, just pointing out the positive. In the end, GB has a limited fan base and in turn we have a limited tooling budget. Fan demanded figure like 6" animated, ghosts, new characters etc… are all 100% tool’d. We simply can’t stock a limited collector line with all 100% tool’d figures. And in the end we have to make business choice first. We know things are “fan demanded” we’re not ignoring you, we’re just delivering what fans ask for within a framework that makes business sense. And yes, that means not always doing everything everyone wants. It is a harsh reality, but that is the logistics behind a relatively low run collector line sold online to highly passionate fans. (I know, I’m one of them!) It doesn’t make us any less committed, it just means we have 4 great figures vs 6 (7 with sub fig). Plus those wacky prop replicas! Wait until you get your hands on a trap. They are amazing.
And that is what the issue is. The majority of GB fans really just want the four main guys. The number of fans so passionate they want everyone is a bit smaller then we had planned for. But four amazing awesome 6" figures are coming in 2012!
Every line has growing pains. MOTUC Goddess has breakage issues, DCU had a lot of paint app issues in early waves. WE do our best. We wont always please everyone, and that’s a fact. But man, that Stay Puft, and the PKE meter. And Vigo. Wow. He is just an amazing figure. I know most people know me as a MOTU fan or a GL fan, but I’m also a huge GB guy and always have been. I brand managed the first two years (figures ending with Vigo) and boy what a ride it has been. I’m excited for what lays ahead for this line. With a new movie on the horizon only good things can come for collectors of all ages!
If we produced only to the sub number the costs would be huge. We are charged a premium for low quota items and the lower the quota the higher the premium. In turn, that price is passed along to the consumer (it is why Matty items are bit pricer vs retail to begin with). So if we did produce to the sub sell in a basic GB 6" would go for about 75.00. That is pretty much why we needed to change directions.
The problem with this is all of these figures you mentioned are 100% sculpts and the only way to afford even 1 or 2 full sculpts is to bank that figure with 4 low tool figures. Hence the 2011 line. We know RGB could go on in 6" for years, but this line would require more tooling then it would bring in based on customer levels for even our best selling movie style figure (which arguably are more popular with more people then the animated which are more of a ■■■■■■■■■ fan base).
