Is Matty going to cancel the GB Line...

Has anybody heard anything to confirm this…AJ?

I know that they said they are going to cancel the subscriptions but does this mean they will cancel the figures too? Obviously its difficult for somebody outside of the company to know how many they have been selling, but each time they have released a figure I think they sold out pretty quick, right?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

It’s probably getting towards ending.

Cancelling the subscriptions, and taking the line from 7 figures to 4 for the next year is not a good sign.

Very sad :frowning:

Those of us who have been collecting GB stuff for years now shouldn’t be too sad, after all we finally got a decent rendition of the boys. You want to know what was sad?

Sad was when NECA announced they would be making a Ghostbusters toy line, and teasing us with a 1st wave that didn’t include any of the actual Ghostbusters. Then canceling the line shortly after posting teaser images of prototypes all over magazines/internet.

Sad was when Master Replicas teased us with an official announcement that they would begin producing Prop Replicas, then quietly cancelling plans on us for no real reason.

Sad was the false news that circulated the internet that MacFarlane toys had announced they would be releasing a Ghostbusters figure line. Only to find out it was just a fan led petition.

Scary was the Ghostbusters video game starting/stopping production & then switching companies almost as many times as Duke Nukem.

If the line ends, and believe me when I say I don’t want that at all, at least they had a good run.

(Though I honestly don’t see why they can’t at least release a four pack of the guys as their Citizen Ghost alter egos, seems like a no brainer.)

Some good points. I’m in agreement that it has been a good run. One thing though…I can totally understand them not making Citizen Ghosts. If they havent been able to make money from the line so far which was aimed at the most broad market possible they couldnt possible make money from Citizen Ghost.

Matty has already stated when they cancelled the club ecto that they will not be cancelling the GB line!!!

What’s funny is that if the line does die, we’ll still be without a Janine. I honestly would’ve liked to have her instead of the Rookie. With that said its been a pretty good run. We got all the guys in both colored uniforms, pretty much all the weapons and accessories and even a containment grid. I only wish that core characters were released before the variants of the guys. Who knows maybe with the sales of the trap, Ray and Vigo will generate enough profit to warrant set completions (remaining courtroom figures, Janine, Janosz.) At that point Mattel can pull the plug. Because other than the mayor and maybe Hardemeyer(who would want him anyway?) the main characters would’ve been realized. And I’d be happy with that.

I’m sure GB3 will be either dead or greenlighted by the end of the matty run, and if its greenlighted, odds are we’ll see everything rereleased at retail, along with some additions.

They had also talked about a smaller line originally as well… they might conclude the 6" line, and launch a new smaller scale line after the 6" line is done. They could reuse sculpts, and just digitally downsize them for reuse.

They could probably even reuse the retro line headsculpts and combine them with the 6" figure bodies for smaller RGB figures.

After enjoying the minimates, I think I’d like a small Joe scaled line, with a firehouse playhouse, and vehicles.

Can someone point me to these? I would love to see this and quick google search didn’t reveal anything.

They were the Hell hounds and Gozer (the woman version)

And a slimer too.

Ask yourself, outside of the small ■■■■■■■■ fans, who would buy Janosz? Mattel is looking at it by numbers, most casual fans only wanted the 4 Ghostbusters and maybe a villain or two. Everyone has to realize that we’re a small niche in the grand scheme of things. Does it suck? Yes it does. But all the bitching and complaining is going to do nothing to continue the line. Corporations are not run on good intentions, they are run on dollars and cents.

OK Calm down! nobody (except you) is bitching in this thread. It was just a friendly discussion on whether they will, or wont continue the line. CHILL!

You are right with your point on how they select characters to make though. I think people would have bought Janine and Dana but anything further than that would be too obscure for the vast majority. This is why I mentioned above Citizen Ghost…they wouldn’t have a chance in hell of selling enough of those to pay for the molds.

Yeah, I can’t seem to find anything either. But I do remember seeing it in Wizard magazine years before the days of the internet. It was on display at Toy Fair in NYC I think. They had an unpainted figure with proton pack. IIRC

I know they say they aren’t cancelling the line. But that’s definitely subject to change without much notice isn’t it?

while it would be terrible if the 6" line ended after rookie, taxi ghost, labcoat peter and dana (in order to truly finish the line successfully i’d like to see courtroom ray and egon, the skinny scoleri ghost, janine and at least gozer if not a terror dog too) i would be in heaven if they came out with a 3.75" line, like gareee said they could even use the same (but scaled down) versions of the 6" sculpts. plus we would be more likely to see an ecto 1 and possibly a firehouse for figures that size.

It’s sad that the line may be at the end of it’s run. Everyone has pretty summed up the reasons for such with the exception of maybe if they’re done with one of the reasons is all the complaining about how innacurate thier PKE and Ghost Traps were made.

Sure these props sold out (or will sell out) , but if I made a line of toys and replicas, and each time I put out a major peice and it would get trashed on how innaccurate it was. I’d finally say F*** it, I’m not doing it anymore.

I’m certianly not saying those points were not valid, but a manufactuer will not keep building something if the product or line gets trashed everytime something gets added to it. Wether or not Mattel heard about or read these comments remains to be seen and this is not to go on a witch hunt blaming members of the community for thier opinons, rather than to say, let’s be grateful for what Mattel has offered and if the line is done, there’s not a whole we can do about it. But moving forward instead of folks completely trashing a line or parts of a line, offer some consturctive criticism (like the harness on Winston’s slime blower).

Like I’ve said this is not to call out folks or to say this is the real cause (heck the line my continue only with a smaller run each year) It is simply an obeservation from the PKE and Ghost Trap threads.

Mattel won’t publically announce that the line is dead until the last figure is sold.

Aj do you think we may see 1 final prop replica?

Out of respect to Mattel, I won’t post my opinion… since it could change at any time.

I think even if the line dies we may still see prop replicas for a bit. They have been a huge success even if the figures haven’t. I would guess next year we’ll see the Ecto Goggles, which could be the final prop they release. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Are we still going to see the 12" 2 packs?
