Just seen this over at action figure insider, matty confirm 100% that it’s the end for figure line but they are continuing with the props. Couldnt see that this has been mentioned before so thought I’d share
Q4. It was mentioned at sdcc this year that there would be more ghostbuster items in 2013 relating to the movies. does this mean just prop replicas, or does it mean figures and accessories, too, just nothing for the retro real ghostbusters line and nothing from the game?
A4. At this time, the only 2013 GB items we have on the books are the prop replicas. There just has not been enough support for more 6″ figures at this time. We’d love to return to this scale in time, perhaps in a movie year!
I have to say, unless they are going to release a 1:1 scale movie-accurate proton pack with lights & sounds for under $500, I have zero interest in anything else they have to offer. I still think they are bullshitting about how the 6" line didnt do well enough. they didnt give it the chance to do really well. they only offered each figure for about 2 weeks before it vanished mysteriously back into their vault. from a business standpoint, wouldnt it have made sense to leave the figures on the site until they actually sold out? or offer them in retail stores like their other figures?
it is only continuing until the goggles come out and my money is on that will be the last prop/figure/gb related item offered until bill murray goes on a coast to coast tour trying to drum up buisness for gb3
I agree with brandan Despite these the statement above I think the goggles will be the last of the line, which as a completist collector who would probably buy nattys steaming turd if he slapped a ghostbusters logo on it, is a bit disappointing.
And I’ll probably get burned at the stake for saying this but I really hope the movie dosent happen, I would much rather see as other animated series or animated movie like marvel and dc are doing currently. The movie just sounds sucky and would be blues brothers 2000 all over again.
I agree with this 100%. It was entirely too difficult to get what you wanted, they were very expensive, the shipping was too high, customer service was unsatisfactory and they just weren’t incredibly impressive toys to begin with.
Courtroom Ray w/ Tony Scoleri will be available on the matty site in november. then it’s done. hopefully they produce a proton pack because I am stupid when it comes to building stuff like that. and it would have been nice to get a Janine and an in-scale Gozer (NECA Gozer towers over the matty gbs, but the NECA terror dogs are a good scale)…
im sure being the most popular did play into that but he was the only fig you could buy that had a proton stream and many people bought 4 of him so the whole team had a stream.not to mention swapping forearms to have 4 gloved busters.
They’ll have to cut corners on materials to make that price-point, so there’d be complaints because it felt cheap and plasticy.
And it wouldn’t hold up to the microscope of scrutiny to meet your “movie-accurate” criteria. More complaints.
Shipping will be outrageous because of the weight and size, so there’d be complaints how much shipping cost and how long it took.
They’d most likely have to do a limited run, which means (gasp) heavy demand and their web access getting hammered when orders go up – and some people missing out on it, cue more complaining.
Poor Mattel, damned if they do and damned if they don’t. You guys were more fun when we never got anything, when it was all hopes and dreams.
They should do a pre order like they are currently doing for Castle Grayskull for the proton pack…I bet it would fill up fast if enough people got the word out about it.
