ok I don’t believe in feeding any rumors & I still have faith & hope for 2013 BUT this is something I felt should be shared:
TOYGURU MAY 9 2012
After we did not recieve enough sub holders in 2012, we could not get additional development resources for more figures so we move the most fan demanded figure that was already in development to the SDCC slot. Fans really do vote with their purchase and the sub not selling was a big red flagthat** we don’t have enough customers for the 6" GB line right now.**
Honestly, had GB sold in the realm of MOTUC or DCU we could talk more figures, but at the end of the day, we just don’t have enough customers to keep the line going. Only the core movie 1 figures sold at the numbers we needed, and really of thes eonly Peter did well. After that, all figures, including fan demanded figures like Vigo, just did not sell the number of units we needed to produce more figures. We can only make figures when their is a customer base buying them.
**Maybe in a movie year when GB returns to the public spot light can we revisit more figures. **
END QUOTE
But on another post he said they’re looking a possible sku’s for future Ghostbusters products…???
i wasnt surprised before at speculation of the line being done with, especially compared to motu. you really cant make many more figures from the same recycled molds even before going into the batman variant territory.
Kinda what alot of us have been expecting honestly. I wish that we could’ve got a Janine out of it. I would be ok if the line ended with Zuul and Janine. At that point we’ve gotten pretty much all the core characters minus Janosz. It’s a shame that variants took the place of characters like Janine, Janosz, Louis and Dana (non possessed) as well as the rest of the courtroom set. they wonder why their sales aren’t there. With a vast majority of the line being variants its not surprising that collectors lost interest. Quite frankly collectors don’t need 5 Peter Venkman figures.
Though I am surprised ToyGuru didn’t wait until after they had sold their last figure to announce the demise of the line. (Or at least until SDCC where it would have had to be inevitable.)
well. isnt this a big steamy pile of ■■■■■. so we have Dana, 1 more figure, and the supposed “thank you” gift for those who bought a 2012 sub, and that’s it. even though they’ve been saying all along that the GB line was going to continue into 2013…
wonder i that means no 3rd prop either. I’m not totally surprised by this, but all of the figures did sell out on mattycollector.com every time a new one was released, idk what more they want?
Props sold out even faster and have huge resale value (still sitting on 2 extra traps and an extra PKE )
What I don’t understand is that if Venkman was the only one to sell well enough for them, why did the line get as far as it did. I also thought they made a mistake with the club exclusive figures. Marshmallow Mess Ray and the rookie. If it had been a more must have fig, maybe they would have sold more subs.
I still think they will release the PKE meter. If the line really is ending it has probably been their plan for a while now, before they announced the re-release so I see no reason they would stop that now. And if it is out in July they are probably already in production.
I have read that it is only the end of the 6" line, so I really hope its not the end of everything! I was hoping to score a PKE off the re release and was really looking forward to grabbing a 1:43 and 1:18 of the Ecto 1A to go with my Ecto 1’s. So here’s hoping its not totally over.
It was such an un inspired toy line and they hardly listened to any of our requests, I mean, good God in heaven we all begged for a Firehouse and Ecto-1 that fits the figures in. And no RGB 6" line, it was not the fault of the fans it was Mattel’s fault. They just didn’t invest what they did on lines such as the MOTU and DC toylines. All we got was recycled mold after mold figures
They first canceled the Retro Figures, but still released the announced 6" figures. The Hot Wheels side of Mattel should not be effected by this change. Besides, didn’t the Ecto 1 1:18 Elite sell out within the first months at most retailers? I’m pretty sure we’ll still see the 1A.
Rest well 6" lineup. Now it looks like we’ll have to get someone to customize a 6" Tony Scoleri figure and make a run for us all to be able to complete the set.
I hope your right about Hot Wheels not being affected by this. Aside from the chinless no ghost logos, I was completely floored by the detailing in both the 1:43 and 1:18 scales so when they announced they were doing the same for the 1A I knew i must posses them as well.
