Matty Collector Ecto-1 for Figures

Does anyone know if this hit the required number for production? A month ago it said 32% and it doesn’t appear to be updated. On the other hand, preorders still seem possible. So is this thing happening, or what?

That was yesterday.

It looks like they have removed the pre-order option for just the Ecto, but the Attack Pack w/ The 2 figures is still up. Seems fishy.

Looks like it’s 38%. Truth be told, I’m more interested in the wand and a future pack, as those are a great alternative to building a pack. I’d imagine they’d sell a bazillion packs, and if the introduced the pack part later, they could re-offer the wand and it would sell like gangbusters.

What I find to be really interesting, and I wish this would have been brought up in the ghostbustersnews.com interview with ToyGuru, is the fact that the consumers trust was really shaken with the Hoverboard debacle. It is not hard to understands why tons of people are not lining up to pay over 200 dollars for an Ecto-1 from Matty sight unseen. I know that there is no charge for the pre-order, but I think the fact that they are not coming close to the percentage needed to move forward speaks volumes about the state of Matty.

I know that ToyGuru will say that Ghostbusters does not have the fan-base to warrant an annual sub etc. But my counter to that is that collectors are going to be weary about Mattel’s high-dollar products after the yellow Stay-Puft, the Hoverboard fiasco, and whatever false promises were made about the upcoming Castle Grayskull. Part of me thinks that this whole Ecto-1 pre-order was simply used as a way of Matty being able to discontinue the 6" line for good.

I brought this up directly with Toy Guru last week and he dodged this issue and many others.

AJ, if you do not mind me asking, what other questions were dodged by ToyGuru? Were you trying to interview him or was this an email?

Every time I see that guy I get the distinct feeling that he has absolutely no idea what the hell he is talking about.

No, it didn’t go through:

I’m so shocked.

Ah, well. I’ll use the cash to buy FOUR of the wands so I can outfit all my buddies on the cheap. It’d be nice to actually pull off a whole Ghostbusters crew one year!

Well, at least we get more stupid He-Man toys(who buys that shit anyhow?) and stupid looking Adam West Batman toys at retail. If Mattel would stop focusing on their lamer licenses, I might still care about their products.

MOTU is Matty’s golden child, everything else is expendable.

And furthermore, there’s no way in God’s Green Earth that The New Adventures of He-Man and She-Ra has a bigger fan base than The Real Ghostbusters to warrant action figures and us Real Ghostbusters fans get the short end of the stick

My thoughts exactly! I can’t believe that MOTU has a fan base that so “obviously” dwarfs that of Ghostbusters. And maybe I’m biased, but seriously- how does Club Eternia blow their pre-sales out of the water?

I knew this company had no idea what they were doing when they released the MEGO style RGB figures. That makes no sense on so many levels.

So are you guys suggesting there’s some sort of conspiracy? LMAO.

The MOTU stuff sells. Ghostbusters did not.

They’re not fudging the numbers. There’s a bigger fan base for MOTU figures than there is for Real Ghostbusters figures.

Does that mean they’re the better fan base? No, because that’s not a competition. It just means that, despite what you may think, YES they sell better.

There’s no conclusive evidence to prove a Real Ghostbusters action figure series wouldn’t sell just as well as MOTU figures. Just take a look at the MOTU figures, they look damn great and I’m not even a fan of MOTU for Cryin’ out loud. The artists of the MOTU toy line are awesome, it is afterall the 4 Horseman we’re talkin’ about. Is there a bigger fan base for MOTU figures than Real Ghostbusters? Maby there is, but we never got Real Ghostbusters figures to compare and contrast sales (By the way, Mego dolls can never be put head to head against a fully tooled high quality action figure such as the MOTU figures) Just imagine if action figures of the Real Ghostbusters we’re produced with that same level of quality as the MOTU, don’t tell me they wouldn’t have done exceptional, hay, the vast majority of us grew up as kids enjoying all the great franchises of the 80’s but I hold firm to the idea that there’s no way in God’s Green Earth that The new adventures of He-Man and She-Ra had a bigger fan base than the Real Ghostbusters to warrant action figures. Anyhow, it doesn’t even matter any more.

Hopefully one day we’ll get a good toy company to produce great RGB/EGB and Ghostbusters movies figures, till that moment comes I guess I’ll look at the bright side, I’ll have more money in my pocket.
