Mattel Ghost Trap

I’ve been happy with the PKE they made, so I think this trap will be pretty nice.

I can’t wait to get one!

I wonder how long it will take for them to step up to the big props, like a Proton Pack!!

Well, I’m planning to strike fear into the hearts of all those wary of wearing theirs on their belt. Depending, of course, on what options are available for attaching them, I know on the “standard” trap holster there is a v-hook AND a strap that goes around the trap (that many don’t bother to install). I’m planning on using both.

I’m going to be modifying my holster. Instead of a V-hook and the strap, I’m removing the v-hook and I’ll have another strap that will sling down around the front of the trap and the standard strap that goes around the doors.

i agree with zeta i think modifying the holster is the way to go. personally another strap that goes up and over the top of the trap and attatch an L bracket to basically be a shelf that the trap would rest on.

Now that’s an interesting idea. Attach maybe two L-brackets at the bottom of the holster to act as a shelf and then use straps across the trap body to hold it in place. Hmmm…

If the trap is as light as it appears to be, why wouldn’t velcro work? Couldn’t you just put a square of velcro on the battery door (where the V-hook would be) and a square on the holster?

velcro is a method but if you like pulling the trap out for pictures etc the velcro would make it more pita then necessary. the shelf and extra strap is simple secure and a relatively cheap and easy fix.

What if you just cut a square a little larger then the v hook then attach the v hook to said plate and velcro to the back of the plate and velcro to the bottom of the trap that way you can velcro the trap without hurting those beautiful MMM holsters.

I don’t think I’ll be going the route of velcro. I remember I used to have a velcro wallet back in elemantary school, then when middle school came around the shame I felt every time I had to open the thing to pay for lunch and everyone would stare at me while they held their leather wallets. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Plus I personally wouldn’t trust velcro AT ALL to hold the trap up. Velcro will fail when you least expect it. I think a modified holster with a couple L brackets at the bottom plus the strap would be a great way to secure it.

I decided this is the route I’m gonna take for now, but I may end up making something similar to what Sketch used in Ghostbusters SLC.

Yea but with the L brackets would you run into the risk of stabbing someone when the trap is off the holster?

A regular trap holder already has L brackets on it, so it would’;t be much different.

You could always dremel the corners so it’s rounded. Less stabby. And with the fact that the L brackets would only stick off your body about 1 1/2 to 2 inches…if you’re that close to someone they’re going to get stabbed by the pack itself or anything else on your belt, most likely.

Good point…get it point :sigh:

When you least expect it? Velcro will fail whether you expect it or not.

I pretty much agree with sentiments here. It’s too flimsy and questionable to try and modify the trap for wearing. It’s just not worth a) destroying the toy, b) having to completely rewire it and rebuild that bottom, and c) the amount of money one would spend on a novelty item. It’s an extremely well made and cool toy, but that’s really all it is.

Ultimately though, I am not now nor will be ever be capable of buying one. I’m unemployed at the moment (so no chance of purchasing one in 2-ish weeks), and simply will not pay the $300 it will cost to buy one later.

Thankfully I’ve been saving up my cash in little amounts at a time since I first heard the announcement of the “suggested price” from SDCC. I’m up to around $140 now, which should cover most of it minus shipping.

With the Mattel trap, is anyone on the board considering buying a load of them then selling them to members here?

Ive seen on Ebay individuals who are pre ordering for the traps is that anyone on the boards?

Curious as UK ghostheads (Inc myself) always seem to have hard times getting a hold of mattel kit, and would feel more confident purchasing from a board member rather than an unknown.

As for the Holster, yeah Shelf and strap, easy to make, should still look the biz, and fully functional. Its got my vote.

NONE of the individuals on eBay have pre-ordered the Traps, and as such do not have any type of guaranteed supply, it’d be best to steer clear of them.

Between the fact these will be available to the UK, and the price, there aren’t any finalised plans to create a group order like what was done with the PKE Meters. Offers have been made to those who wish to order through an American forum-member, but nothing specific has been organised.

Thanks for the heads up,

Back to plan A for getting one of these puppies then.

Best of luck to other Ghost trap seekers.
