I just got my trap today and hooked it up. There is no sound whatsoever in movie mode. I don’t want to open it up to check wiring in case I get them to replace it. Has this happened to anyone else? I only see posts of peoples traps doors being noisy or not opening and pedals not working.
Did you try good quality new batteries?
brand new copper tops out of the package
Hmmm… I’m trying to remember if movie mode even has sounds. I haven’t turned ours on in a few months so I don’t recall the sound feature differences.
demo mode has no sound or movement, but movie mode is supposed to have all the sound effects. it’s like the speaker doesn’t exist.
Does everything else work? Maybe the switch between movie and prop mode is busted?
Does the trap still light up and shake in movie mode?
yup. everything else works perfectly, but there is no sound whatsoever. it shakes and lights up and everything. i’m half tempted to open it up and see if a speaker wire came loose, but if Matty takes it back to replace it, I don’t want the tamper-tape to be cut (if there is any.)
Hmmm well I don’t know what it could be. Maybe someone with more knowledge of eletronics will chime in with a suggesiton.
I sure hope so
Did you try the other setting?
Yup. it does what it’s supposed to in prop mode, but in movie mode, no sound.
Most of the Matty Collector traps are defective, as what I have read here in the forums. Luckily the one I got here off this site seems to be working… For now.
Considering that EVERYTHING else works on your trap except the sound, it could be 1 of 3 things, to my knowledge at least:
The speaker is actually defective and refuses to work
There are cold or weak soldering joins on either the speaker or board
The wires connecting the speaker to the board are either defective as well, or physically broken.
Opening the Trap and cartridge seems to be the best bet to be sure that something is/isn’t working. I haven’t opened mine yet, so I’m not sure if there’s any security stickers or whatnot.
I’m going to eventually modify my try and reinforce everything to prevent any defective issues I have read. It might void something, but that would make me worry if I was, in fact, going to resell it. If you’re too worried to open anything up yourself, just wait a few more days. I’ll come back, or someone else will, with pictures of their trap’s interior for ya!
I hope this helps, bud!
I opened it up before sending it back (there is no security tape) and found that the sound chip on the board is fried. there should be around 2 ohms of resistance through the chip (from switch input to speaker output) and all 3 of my multi-meters put out the error message saying there is no connection through the chip. Matty, from what the rep said on the phone, will not offer me a replacement chip to install myself. My only course of action is to send it back to be refurbished (at my own expense!!) and shipped back to me. Ive decided to just get a refund because for the cost of the trap and the cost of fixing it, I can buy one from ebay and save around 30 bucks. Thanks to all who helped and hopefully the next one I buy works properly.
Anyone know how to fix the LED U_U? The one all the way on the right .. (round one) … yellow one… mine apparently burnt out…
Had mine for about 3 months,i love it to death
but the trap door on the right sticks up by about (11 Millimeters) i know it’s not a big deal and have no idea about fixing it.do any of you have problems like this with your trap doors? :whatever:
when i took mine apart to see why i had no sound, i found that the reason my door stuck open a hair was because there is a small ribbon cable that runs right by the plastic arm that lifts the doors open. if the cable isn’t routed through the guide, it can cause one if not both doors to not close all the way.
I will be checking that sounds simple enough ![]()
Hey there,
I came here, because I am not only a big fan of the Ghostbusters movies, but because of my ghost trap. I contacted Bart from Matty Collectors and he said, that I have to try Ghostbusters forums, because he can’t help me.
My problem is, that my trap does not shake anymore since yesterday.
I opened it and noticed that an orange wire was damaged. I soldered it and put in new batteries, but still no shaking. The other things work just fine: sounds and lights.
Does someone of you have that problem too?
Cheers
Marc
The matty traps are awesome… when they work. Mine has had issues from day 1. Sometimes it turns on… but usually it doesn’t. I opened it up. Couldn’t find anything wrong. I think some of the connections are just really shoddy.
My trap is now working again. ![]()
One tooth, of a gearwheel, has blocked the electric motor, so the trap wasn’t able to shake.
