Matty Ecto Goggle complete Repaint & Weathering

Hi! Bored by the totally toyish and fake look of the original color, I’ve decided to completely repaint my Matty Ecto Goggle. I’ve not modified tthem in any way, I’ve only removed the two cloth loops, due to adjust the side straps.

I’ve used a spray Tamiya Olive Drab green for the main body and Games Workshop colors for the details and weathering. Hope you like it!

that is one hell of a make over, guy. great job! i, too, didnt approve of the color, thought it was too bright

Thank you!

Yes, I think Matty Goggle are a good piece, not 100% accurate, but solid, well constructed and with nice overall shape and functions. But the color, for me, it’s totally awful and literally sink all the good things of this prop/toy. Even only a simple coat of a good Olive Drab color can improve a lot those Goggle.

Quite the improvement. Are you planning to extend the completely black lense so it’s more accurate?

VERY nice! I’m planning to paint mine also but with plastidip. I really like the weathering

Onestly, no. They’re enough accurate for me, and I like the lenght difference of the two lenses.

I re-post a link to the gallery, due to some visualization problems encountered by other users.

Nice. Paint goes a long way. I wonder if there is a way to fill in all of the seams and use rechargeable batteries that don’t need to be removed.

amazing work…it’s incredible how much better they could have looked! Now if I can bring myself to do the same!

Yeah! It’s my philosophy about props: if you have a good base, you can obtain a great prop if you paint and age it well.

Mother puss bucket! Nice!!

Ahah! Thank you!

Wow, im glad I stumbled across this thread because I just purchased a pair of these goggles on ebay for a reasonable price and I don’t like the bright colors so I will follow your steps and repaint. Thanks for the inspiration.

Awesome job Lazarus!!!

I’m totally going to do the same work on my goggles, thank you very much!!

May you please tell me if I need to put some primer before using the paint, and how did you do the weathering please?

Have a nice day/evening/night/whatevertimeisitthere

Awesome paint job. My goggles will be showing up tomorrow and I also would love to know how u went about painting yours as I would love to do the same to mine. Again awesome job.

Thank you, guys!

I haven’t used any primer, but i totally recommend it, especially if you’re going to hang the Googles at your belt. A good primer give a better grip to the color, so I think it’s always a good choice.

I’ve made the weathering with acrylic Citadel Miniatures colors: mixing a dark blackish brown with a lot of water for the dirt (around the lenses, for example) and using a metallic paint without water for the scratches. Don’t overdo it, especially for the scratches, add it little by little.

Hope this can help!

Thank you very much Lazarus, these advices are prrrrrrecious!!

Great job! as everyone has previously stated, the Mattys look like toys even from a distance. this is what they should have done to them from the get go.
