Will any of you majestically creative individuals be creating a hack/chip/reprogram/whatever to replace the horrendous stop-motion animations that come with Matty’s Ecto Goggles?
Think of how awesome they could be by substituting in Activision’s CG renders of Slimer and Eleanor Twitty…! Even substituting images from the movie would be an improvement!
So, any educated guesses on how this could be done, if at all?
That would be extremely difficult to pull off, I think.
From what little I’ve seen the matty goggles don’t use a screen but a rear projection setup of some kind. If you want full motion video your best option is to tear apart the matty goggles, design a custom video sequence, hack a pair of video glasses, throw out the matty crap and install your custom setup into a set of real frames.
I read that and think “If I can do this, I’d not put it in a toy pair of goggles, when you can get real parts for the same price.”
Has anyone attempted anything of this sort yet?
If someone has, they haven’t publicised it.
My gut would say that nobody’s attempted it, though.
The resolution of the screen in the goggles is so low that I doubt a good video would make it much better. I laughed when someone described it in a review as “HD.”
