So I’m building my first pack for Halloween and such, and I’m making it a lefty. I really like the MattyCollector neutrino wand, but of course that damn grip on the front is right-handed :P. I was wondering if anyone had tried modifying it to a left-hand grip, and how it went? Is it worth trying?
You could hold it Louis Tully style ala ghostbusters 2. Not sure if you could or would want to take it apart to change it.
I’m a lefty and never really had any reason to hold the thrower left handed. That being said, I’m pretty sure the front handle is molded into the handle so if you removed it, you would be left with a void. When you factor in the work involved, it would make more sense to either scratch build or get a resin thrower kit and build it to be left hand specific.
Yeah, Lewis just held his in his left hand, and Dan is left handed but used the thrower right handed, so in the fictitious movie world there seems to be no need for a lefty specific thrower, but I can see if you wanted to just make it your own, in which case I’d also just start from scratch with it, might be the same or more work, but it will be less of a headache.
Yeah, I’ve pretty much decided I’m gonna grab a kit from an area builder and build it with a lefty grip and all that. Besides, since i’m building anyway it shouldn’t be that much of a difficulty.
See, now you’re going to have to rethink pack also. The loom is coming out of the wrong side for a lefty. Everything’s all “bak’erds”.
Oh yeah, not a problem. The shell I’ve got coming is not pre-drilled so I gotta put my own hole and mounting hook anyway. So already worked that out in my mockup. Figure I’m making some minor customizations to this sucker anyway, might as well go ahead and make it comfortable.
A few years ago, somebody actually built a completely left handed pack.
Yeah, I’ve seen a few shots here and there. Mine’s nearly done, actually, though I’m gonna have to leave off a few minor lights and things to make the Halloween parties and such (also my trigger box broke while I was drilling a hole in it last night. :P) But I think I’ve got a decent design–moved some of the power stuff over to the right side of the pack to free up space for the wand mount on the left. Flipped some controls, grips, etc. Not too bad for a firstie build, if I do say so myself. Hopefully I’ll be able to make with the pix this weekend.
