Oh, hi everyone! Its that time of year again. “Halloween?” you might ask? No silly, time for mburkit to build a new proton pack! I was really apprehensive about making another build thread because to be honest, I’m not really scratch building much on this build. In the past, I have used styrene to build my props but this is to be my last movie pack build for myself and I decided I wanted to build the pack similar to how the real GB1 hero packs were built.
So I set forth to empty my wallet and cap out my credit card. . .
The pack I am building will consist of parts from 4 main people: I have a version 1 shell from zombierepellent, jpa35 is making all the metal parts for the pack, the gun body was made for me by CPU64, and the rest of the metal to complete the gun is coming from umoribawar. I decided to do this build thread because even though I am just paint parts and putting them together, I am also heavily modifying stuff from these sellers and doing things on this pack I have yet to see anyone do. So here we go . . .
This is how my shell looked like before I began any modifications.
You may be asking yourselves “why modify it, it looks great!”. Well, 2 reasons. This is a v.1 shell from Pat and I had to do all the modifications that he also preformed for his v.2 shell myself. This included removing a cosmetic plate around the sync generator, changing the height of the EDA discs, and adding the curve under the powercell. On top of these modifications, I also changed the shape of some of the corners of the crank generator, added the taper on the one edge of the EDA, replaced the tops of 2 ribs on the powercell, and added the “domino” marks on the cyclotron rings. In this photo you can see the added curve under the powercell, 2 ribs on the powercell are missing the tops to them, the EDA discs have been modified and there’s the taper I added to the EDA itself. In this photo, you can also see the extra cosmetic plate still on the pack around the sync gen.
In this photo, you can see how I sanded and rounded out the inner corners of the crank generator to better represent what was on the hero packs. I also scratch built the discs that are on the top of the sync generator, as seen in this photo.
Well, now that I modified the shell to how I wanted it, it was time for paint!
I decided on this build to use grey primer with a satin black finish. I also decided to add the “hammered” look to just my cyclotron. In this photo, you can see the “domino” marks on the cyclotron rings, along with the new clear tops to two of the ribs on the powercell. I also started to add some of the hardware to the shell, such as the real legris straights and one of the legris elbows. Everything going onto this build is the real hardware. The booster tube, HGA, N-filter, Ion Arm, PPD, injector tubes, beamline and filler tube will all be aluminum on this pack. This is where the shell sits at, at this point in the build.
Now onto the motherboard and electronics!
I’m using a motherboard from MMM along with a genuine LC-1 ALICE Frame and straps. The top spacer also has a foam spacer here, to recreate the look of the top spacer on the GB1 hero packs.
Mounted on the other side of the motherboard are the proptronix pack lights, 2 speakers, replica props sound chip and my 12v power source.
I also decided to replicate some of the inside of the packs, as seen in the semi-hero pack that was owned by Volguus. I placed a FC2 board on the PCB and set it up to look like it was all wired up just like the semi hero pack.

I also have a master kill switch placed on the other side of the motherboard, between the motherboard and the ALICE frame. The AA battery case for the sound chip and the amp’s volume control are also located on the motherboard.
One last detail I added to the motherboard that I don’t see very often is the foam along the top of the motherboard.
Now on the gun! Not much is done with it. So far I have the gun body from CPU64, a heatsink from jpa35 and a gun track that was milled by my friend’s uncle to our specs.

Lastly, here is a little teaser for my lights. This was a test to see how the clear tops to the ribs on the powercell looked.
