mburkit's NEW Proton Pack WIP (Lights complete! 7/8/09)

as it stands right now I have a wrestling show that saturday (25th) so I’d only be able to make sunday but if the group can make saturday and sunday i’ll skip wrestling. if they can only make one day I will adjust my schedule accordingly.

this pack is turning out nice, keep up the good work

Thanks!

Speaking of keeping up the good work, I made the ion arm today and got it on the pack.

I think I am going to try to work on a bumper tomorrow. It probably won’t turn out too amazing but I’m going to try none the less.

great work on the ion arm and good luck with the bumper!

do you have a resin bumper or did you make it from scratch??

The Ion Arm is scratch built from styrene. As for the bumper, I wish I had a resin one like there is on my old proton pack, but since no one is offering them as of right now, I’m going to TRY and make one out of styrene as well. Not sure how well it will go but I’m going to give it a try.

ok, good luck!

Okay, worked on a bumper today. It’s not finished BUT I’m actually surprised by how it’s coming along.

On the pack:

And in my glorious hand!

Obviously I need to work on the center part where the shock mount goes, I’ve only made the top of that part so far to make sure it all fits. Hopefully I will get it finished by Thursday.

looking good! Remember to fill in the thickness of the square middle part so it is about 1/2" thick. That’s what Ryan’s packs resin bumpers look like (and they are right behind me! : )

Yup, that’s what I’m doing tomorrow. I have a Volguus bumper sitting right behind me for comparison

It should be interesting and a pain in the ass to do.

well, it will be ready for Halloween and probably the 25th anniversary, right?

that bumper looks great. the sizing is spot on

the whole build is looking really good, keep it going

WHOA! Nik-a-tron gave you a thumbs up–I’m not worthy : P

I’m not worthy of any of the compliments I’ve been getting. But they are still nice  It’s supposed to be nice here today so I will probably have this thing will be ready for sanding and paint tomorrow.

And, scratch built bumper done and awaiting a shock mount and some bolts to hold the sucker on. I think it turned out okay. I’m still keeping the option open to getting a better one from whoever on the board starts selling them in the future.

But for now, it will do.

I wanted to do one last update before I leave for my week long vacation.

This is how my pack stands now. The pack is basically done, it is just awaiting my motherboard from Irricanian which is stuck in customs. Hopefully it will show up when I’m gone and I return to a surprise!

Anyway, here she is now:

First full day back from my vacation and now the beast is wearable! I’m just glad to have it up off the floor and on the guitar stand.

Now to start the gun . . .

Just wondering, what did you use to cut the styrene.

Well I used a band saw because I just happen to have one lying around. But you can use a razor and a straight edge to do cut it. Just score and snap.

On a side note, I will hopefully be updating soon with some progress with the gun. I was in the hospital for a week but hopefully I can get back into the swing of things.

Well, glad to hear that you’re out of the hospital while simultaneously sorry that you were in there in the first place…

So, I have a Dremel, a belt sander, drill, a soldering iron, and a jigsaw. Will I need anymore tools that you can think of? I’m using the same plans and mostly the same materials that you have used here. I’m going to start on my pack soon. I’ll be starting a WIP thread once I get going.
