I have been designing what I think Ray and Egon would have designed after GB2. They would have wanted to lighten and minimize the pack and overall upgrade the equipment to be more efficient and portable. Perhaps building the PKE meter into the wand, hell maybe even rearranging the pack components and fitting all parts necessary into the wand. This is radical and the original packs were and still are amazing. Purely a what if sort of scenario. This is what I have come up with so far. The build will follow.

i’ve seen hundreds of different takes on the pack some on this site, some on the rpf… hell i’ve even seen a lego pack then there’sthis lil beauty i came across as i was looking at refferences for my EGB packbuild
That is a far better looking pack than the RGB ones. It looks like it would have a more compact linear particle accelerator (I’m guessing that’s what the scrolling yellow rectangular light on the bottom component is)than the toroidal particle accelerator that the original packs had. I never really understood the reasoning behind the proton canister deal was.Those packs didn’t look like they had any sort of particle accelerator on them.
I remember the box in the thrower seemed to have circuit boards filling slots kind of like in a desktop.
I think Egon had plugged different circuit boards in or switched some around in different eps to do stuff like reverse polarity ect.
The canisters seem to give the impression that they are somehow filled with protons-which makes zero scientific sense. If they were canisters containing hydrogen used as the proton source that would have been ok.
But you would still need to have a particle accelerator. And it looks like the pack has a rack inside of it with some more of the canisters,sort of like a soda can vending machine.
I don’t think much practical thought was given to those packs unlike the movie packs which sort of make sense in a quasi scientific way.
But this scratch built hybrid pack goes a long way in correcting those problems,aside from looking much cooler.
I don’t think that anyone has actually made a diagram of the EGB packs and done a detailed description of what the components are. It would probably make for an interesting project but I’m not sure how much actual interest their would be in doing this. Designing your own specialty pack variants from the ground up with an eye toward some sort of design concept for it would be interesting though. For instance something like a directed neutrino beam disruptor pack. Say it’s meant for use on higher level entities that manifest corporeally in this realm. Neutrinos are supposedly “ghostly” particles that seen to pass through solid matter unimpeded. Say Egon has the theory as the neutrinos pass through the corporeal entity it is supposed to causes a disruption in the binding forces that keep it’s molecular structure together so it simply falls apart at the molecular level. Since it’s an untested tech based on this theory it can have some unexpected effects-like as it negates the binding forces in the molecules it causes brief instabilities such as flipping quarks to anti quarks or something resulting in a spectacular explosion. It would make it all the more funny if one of the reasons this was developed was to significantly reduce property damage in busts,only to have it create massive amounts of damage to the surroundings when the entity explodes.
I was thinking that the Ghostbusters could have had the Pope consecrate their stockpile of positive mood slime when he visited the U.S. That could prove useful when battling demonic entities by quickly weakening them while being blasted by the proton streams. They could also get the pack’s power cells and cyclotrons blessed-just in case.
