Mousey's Ecto- Time to work that lightbar!

I got really really bored at work today. Became a supporting member and gained access to the reference photo’s and changed a few things around. One of these days I’ll get around to finding my huge stack of graphing paper and doing this properly with measurements and such. But for now… I’ll doodle until I get a free day to paint and sand and cut and drill…

Just curious - are you making the rack mostly mirrored on purpose? It has great details, but the driver’s side and passenger’s side are flipped on almost everything compared to the movie car(s).

PS I like E-506 (my Mother-in-law’s B-day).

Yes I have intentionally mirrored the entire rack so that the blue hoses match up with my gas tank lid. : ) It didn’t seem right to have them not match the gas tank lid and I’m sure I’d hear all kind of grief if I only flipped the hoses.

This has led to me intentionally mirroring a LOT ( and I mean a LOT) of photo’s of the Ecto 1 and Ecto 1A.

I’m also opting for the satellite dish from 1A instead of the dome object.

I like the sat more than the dome and sats are a lot easier to find than resin or acrylic domes. And cheaper!

Very cool. It looked intentional, but certainly had me puzzled for a while.

About the only other things on the rack that would have to change are the siren and spotlight locations. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure I decided not to flip those two. I own a spotlight (pictures above) but I don’t have the bracket to mount it on. And I haven’t come across one. :frowning:

Well. thanks to a few friends and neighbors i managed to get a hold of two satellite dishes. One had a plate that was too oval but had a shorter bracket arm- and a long arm with a three prong end on it. The other was rounder with a longer bracket arm, a short arm with no end plate on it. So I took the short bracket bar bar, the round plate, the short arm and the three prong and did some drilling. (don’t worry if that didn’t make sense… It took me 10 minutes to word it right and i’m still lost) Took a while but I got all the pieces to fit back together- I Frankenstein’d it!. Didn’t want to both painting just yet in case some stuff didn’t line up right. Glad I didn’t waste the time/paint.

Here’s the results:

I’m going to have to cut the short arm down a bit.. it’s angled as low as it will go when it comes to the bracket arm. This is just temporary mounting at the moment. I’m not certain where I’ll place the sat at this point… or if i’ll even use it at all. It’s SO BIG!!!

I also made friends with some of the guys down at American Plastic Distributors. I talked to them a bit and they might be able to help me make the white box for the inside of the cargo rack. I’m debating getting the extension now… I don’t think I’m going to have room for everything I want to do at this rate!

Fellow Ghostbusters. Not that I feel like I live in a bad area of town or anything… I’d be surprised if anything was stolen off my car. But in the last two days I’ve seen lights and decals stolen from fellow GB’s. I’ll be getting a light bar here within the next few weeks and it’ll be magnetic. I wanna look into getting straps for it as well. I know that the straps can simply be “cut” by a would be thief. But if they are gonna steal it I wanna make them work for it. Any of you use straps to keep your light bars on? If so what kind and what would you recommend. I’d be wanting black me thinks.

Oh and I managed to get my tanks (yellow and green) on today. I’ll add pictures shortly.

Looking great, mouse! You’re flying through this project Oo

Still hard at work at finishing this project. I’m gonna start working on a solution to keep the tanks ‘even’ soon- probably after my vacation. In the mean time I got my vinyl decals and magnet sheets! So ow I have magnetic decals.

Decided to pickup my son from school in the Ecto- lights and sirens and theme song playing. Kids on the playground playing before school is out have seen the ca…r and started shouting “GHOSTBUSTERS!!!” I have faith in this generation and the generation that raised them. My heart is gonna explode.

nice!

Do you need to add an extra mounting bracket to those tanks? I noticed they were crooked like that the other day when I spotted your ride at Microcenter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah - the U bolts aren’t holding the way I wanted. i was going to try foam or wood between them and the bar to help. Honestly… I kind of like them crooked xD hahaha

That looks amazing! Great Job!

Looking great! Can’t wait to see the finished product!

Made a few slight upgrades in preparation for the Do Dah Parade in Columbus on Saturday. Going to have to try something different to get the tanks on there again. Wish me luck! Managed to get a strobe mounted to the center of the rack too but I don’t have pictures of that yet.

I also added some caution tape along the edges and the back. It attracts a lot more attention now.

Going to whine and complain a little bit here. Related to the build but also not..

So I’ve been searching for a lightbar here for a while. About a month ago this girl gets in contact with me on Facebook about her friend in Utah who is selling his lightbar. He’s a former Ghostbuster and decided to get out of the group due to some drama and was selling off all of his stuff. Seems like a new Ghostbusters dream if you’re looking for parts!

So I talk to the guy, get the measurements of the bar, some pictures and have him test it out to make sure it’s all working. One bulb is burnt out but outside of that- nothing that isn’t fixable. I pay him $100 up front and $50 shipping ( all through paypal)

It’s 45 days later and he still hasn’t shipped the thing. I’ve gotten excuse after excuse on why he hasn’t shipped it. “My daughter is sick.” “Family in from out of town and not sure when they are leaving.” and now " I sprained my arm."

Now… it’s financial hardship. I’m sorry that you may or may not be in a tough spot. But I sent you the money paying for an item and it’s shipping. You don’t go and spend the money i gave you without shipping the item first. You use it FOR THE SHIPPING!

He has until tonight to either ship my lightbar or process a refund. Which he know wont process because he doesn’t have the funds. I guess I’ll see if this is legit or not by the end of the night but now I don’t even know what to expect when I get this lightbar. Is it going to be significantly different than the pictures? Will it even work?

I’m close to just filing a claim, getting paypal to give me my money back ( I have 180 days from payment to submit a claim, thank god) and start my search on another lightbar.

:boogieman:

Check out the Code 3 MX7000… That’s what I have… You can find some used ones on eBay for about the same price you were given for that last transaction…

Thanks Phil! I will look into them for sure.

To everyone:

So- I know a lot of people keep signs in their windows for events. Like- no touching, photography allowed. I was hoping to find a thread with some examples of some. The other guys in the Columbus Ghostbuster’s are going to hook me up with one but what other kinds of signs do you guys have in your windows?

I am one of those types of people who looks at modern ecto’s, and throws my 2 cents out there. For one…me personally… I am not a fan of ecto’s that are not a shade of white, if you plan on keeping it that way for a daily driver instead of halloween. Black if done right can be pulled off too. Now your not doing a bad job at all, you’re taking your time and making the components look right…Instead of ■■■■ pulled out of a junkyard and thrown on. And it’s not over the top like most people do. There are some real ugly ecto’s on here. But since it is a modern car… why not use modern lightbars? Again…just my opinion that big rotators look goofy on cars made after the early 90’s… But yes definitely file the claim with paypal and get your money back lady!

If you don’t wanna spend too much on modern stuff…check out: http://www.speedtechlights.com/

It may not be the most highest quality stuff. But I have had the lights on my Xterra a long while and used quite alot…You can see my setup here: https://www.facebook.com/Bloodvaynedotcom/videos/722305267783054/?l=282179631842575769 And also have a lightbar in my rear window.

And don’t ever go cheap finishing the roof rack either even if you’re pressed for time…no such thing lol. Take your time and do it right. Or it ends up looking like the temp setup used on my X for filming purposes lol…Case in point:

Thought for sure that thing was gonna rip off going over 40 mph doing some scenes lol.

Will I ever do an ecto? No… If you lurk around here long enough in the Ectomobiles section…you’ll see a majority of people who ectofy their cars…end up having some sort of issues. There is this thing called the Ecto Curse…

Good luck with your project. Look forward to seeing the finished results. And I hope you can make me eat my criticism.
