I’ve just now gotten around to playing the multiplayer campaigns, and while they are fun, and so F’ing tired of people throwing 3-4 traps in the same spot all right next to each other…when one person throws down a trap the others should work as a team and wrangle the ghosts into that trap, or atleast spread out where you lay your traps down.
it aggrevates me to no end to join or even create games and have some punk running around throwing traps everywhere then getting on the mics screaming at people for not trapping anything.
I hear ya. Although that doesn’t bother me as much as other things. I mean if a couple of guys are being dumb about trap placement, I’ll just go off and find a ghost that they aren’t fighting over and toss my trap out under it once I’ve got it wrangled.
What I really hate is when I’m trying to slime tether a ghost and everyone keeps shooting it, breaking my thethers. That, or in Containment, you make the ghost weave and dodge, making it harder to get a lock on him. Another is people who will waste their powerups needlessly. Either using it on a creature that it’s not effective on or has little effect, or just letting go with it all ■■■■■-nilly. Learn the tools of your trade, people!
I always create the games, and if people are playing stupid, I let them know to cut it out or I kill the game. I don’t allow fighting over Traps, and I encourage teamwork. I make plain that if they players only care for themselves and make no effort to revive fallen teammates that I’ll kill the game.
“It’s Ghostbusters, not Halo” is what I commonly tell people. And hey, some people quit the games. But others seem appreciative that I don’t allow Trap fighting, because that’s the absolute worst. When one or two people have a ghost ready to trap, and some asshole’s trying to drag it over to THEIR trap, halfway across the map.
A) You can re-launch your trap anywhere. So just relaunch the sucker right where you are if you want him in YOUR Trap that badly.
B) there’s no extra advantage given to whose Trap it goes into, is there? I mean, aside from Slime Dunk mode, all of the modes are geared toward teamwork, right?
I find that the PSN usually has more mature people, since not just any little kids can afford a PS3, so I’m sure there’s a lot more immatuirty on XBL, from what evidence I’ve seen. True? Discuss.
In Halo, total immaturity. I cannot even begin to describe the sub-human levels of intellegence on there.
On Ghostbusters…you know, I’d have to say I’ve gotten more matchups with good players than with ■■■■■■ ones. I’ve gotten messages from people after a match, saying how well I played. You don’t see that in Halo. Got a message last night from someone who said I helped them get the Gozer’s Most Wanted achievement and thanked me for it.
I can’t comment on PS3 online playing, as I’ve never done it.
I have not had many problems on Ps3, usually though I’m playing with board people, but when we do get someone we dont know, we welcome them ,say hey, and just enjoy the game, we dont shout orders we just strategize and relay it out to team members
That’s all fine and good… and may give you a sense of empowerment… but in reality it does nothing. If you “kill” the game… it migrates the game to another host so the game can continue. I’ve been in several games where the original creator of the game left and it just bumped the “host” and the game continued.
I’ve found that just playing w/ guys from the forums is the best way to go. These guys are awesome & an absolute pleasure to play MP with. We’ve got guys on PSN and on Xbox live so there is no shortage of good, mature players to get teamed up with.
Multiplayer is frustrating because people are greedy… they always go after all the power ups & equipment pickups only to get knocked down and lose it all or just to have it sit in their “inventory” and get wasted away. What i hate most is people who only care about getting money rather than achieving objectives. Yes, it’s “competitive” co-op… but that doesn’t mean you can’t help out. I hate when people ignore you when you get knocked down so they can continue trapping ghosts even though they’re 5 feet away from you. If i’m trapping a ghost and someone goes down near me I will let the ghost go and revive them right away. I also hate it when you’re about to trap a ghost and some ■■■■■■■ from the other side of the map wrangles him & slams him closer to HIS trap. I don’t mind people wrangling the same ghost as me… but don’t pull him across the map so you can put him in your own trap. Hell, i’ve even wrangled ghosts from the other side of the map… but I don’t pull them towards me. Everyone knows that the more wrangle beams around the ghost the faster it goes into the trap… but these guys are only out for themselves and that ruins the fun.I have these problems nearly EVERY time I do random matches (with few exceptions) but when I play with the guys from the forums here I always have a great time. We work together and we have a great time with our goofy banter back and forth as we’re boxin ghosts.
are you on PSN or xbox live? If you’re on PSN you’re more than welcome to join us. We usually gather on Wednesdays & Sundays around 8 or 9 pm eastern.
We have our own thread on the topic where we setup times & we also post screenshots from our matches. You can find it here:
There’s also a thread where you can find everyone’s xbox live gamertags & PSN screen names here:
This is why I’m hesitant about MP. Awhile back I had made a reference to Halo MP (yes I know it’s old but…)http://forums.ghostbusters.net/showthread.php?p=146414#post146414, and how things like this happen where, you get a few a-holes who like to come in and ruin it for everybody, or are greedy and try to get ALL the achievements for themselves. Now I’m not ruling out MP all together, but when I do finally play, it will be with all of you guys, so I know it will actually be fun.
LOL I wouldn’t say you’ve been making an ass out of yourself if you were saying that to people who did not know better, but be careful how you say it because it may not be a threat you can use much longer.
For your sake I hope the immature players remain ignorant and you can use this as long as you can. It’s not often you can find a way to get these guys playing better… if it works more power to ya. I just wanted to let you know that it’s basically an empty threat so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work on everyone.
I find myself flipping out a lot in multiplayer due to the incompetence of my fellow teammates. It’s so hard to get even one good guy on your team, let alone a good group. In fact I researched bluetooth headsets and ordered myself one specifically so I could talk to these people online and offer some form of direction, or at the very least be able to tell them how retarded they are.
We actually ran into 2 people tonight who would not back out of the match while we waited for our team mates. We were even NICE ! but they just wanted to be D**** ! or D***less … if you will. we really were polite, there was no reason to sit there and be rude. we eventually had to back out and start a new game because he would rather sit there and NOT play then join a new match and enjoy his/her/itself … some people.
It really grinds my gears when you need to be revived and your “team mate” is standing right beside you and doesnt bother to, he/she keeps blasting the proton stream around the map. Fair enough if you have a ghost in the capture stream then by all means trap it first then revive me but when your just blasting about shooting the stream I get ■■■■■■ off.
Another thing ive noticed lately is when im using the slime tether and shot a tether at the trap before I aim it at the ghost, people are now blasting my tether and breaking it before ive even tried to trap a ghost.
Also need a “kick” option for hosts in the game lobby.
I think the major problem with multiplayer is that there is the 1st - 4th rank after a match is over. This encourages people to compete, even though the idea is to cooperate. Slime Dunk is competitive, and that’s fine and good to have a 1st through 4th for that. They should have other competitive modes that also rank you after the match is over. Maybe have the four ghostbusters split up and see who traps the most ghosts? Regardless, the cooperative matches should not have this 1st through 4th feature so as to not have players compete unnecessarily.
In my opinion there are several other things that could have been done to enhance the multiplayer experience.
They should have taken a page out of Call of Duty’s book and had weapon upgrades that you could buy after you earn X amount of dollars. For example, defeat $20,000 worth of enemies with the slime blower, you get the tether. Defeat $50,000 with the blower/tether and you get the third option of pink slime.
They should have included the ability to unlock more weapons as you rank up. So say with rank 1-5 you only have the proton stream, which can be upgraded to make use of the boston dart. Then at rank 6 you can use the slime blower. Then at rank 12 you get the dark matter generator and at rank 16 you get the meson collider.
They should have made use of the PKE meter in some way. Maybe make certain ghosts “hide” and you have to use the PKE meter to find them.
They should have included more “boss” fights similar to Stay Puft on the rooftop level. Maybe an encounter with the Grey Lady in the reading room? Maybe make the twisted stacks bigger and battle Azetlor?
The problem with this one though is that certain gametypes are near impossible, if not completely impossible to complete if you don’t have the right tools. Try completing protection on the cemetery without having the stasis beam to freeze the golem on the last round. Not gonna happen.
Actually, this is in the game. If you play Containment, sometimes ghosts will run away or disappear. Using the PKE meter will help you track them down so you can coerce them out into the open again.
has anyone encountered the walter pecks of multiplayer who don’t understand that in the museum level you have to take care of the pools of black slime that appear thanks to the big slime creatures?
doesn’t anyone who appears on multplayer actually sit down and play the full single player campaign first?
playing the game to complettion should have been a requirement for multiplayer.
Well there is a hint that appears on the loading screen that says to use the slime blower to neutralize black slime pools. A requirement for multiplayer should be the ability to read.
I dunno about PSN, but on XBL you can provide player feedback and if you choose to “Avoid this player” it will try to keep you from getting matched up with them in the future.
