My 74 Hearse Ecto Mobile

I entered the Ecto Mobile car club today at 8 in the morning. Here is my new car.

A 74 3 way Caddy hearse.

It was in perfect condition but got messed up during transport. Nothing too major. A bent hood.

I will take better pictures in the following days.

After I get the hood fixed I’m getting the windows tinted and putting some spotlights on the car.

I’m going for an “undercover ecto mobile look”. Very conservative in my design. More spotlights and whip antennas then white and red paint. I’m keeping the black on black though and will keep the car mostly stock.

Just like how volunteer firefighters have stock vehicles with lights and sirens to go to jobs. That’s the path I’m planning to pursue with this build.

I’m ready for Halloween!

I’d absolutely love to see someone go full-throttle with building a version of the original Ecto concept. Too many people out there just use it as an excuse to have a black Ecto… that looks as much like the screen-used car as possible. No one that I know of has gone for slick, solid black with antenna forest and radome on top.

DO IT.

I was gonna…but it got wreckted.

Looking forward to the outcome of this, my very first hearse was a '74 Superior, (I believe this is a Miller Meteor) 74 was also the last year of the round headlight…but anyway yeah lots of potential here.

Honestly? I’d like to see this turned into the Ecto-1 from EGB. I know people are going to hate me for saying it but if you made the EGB ecto (without the fins), I think it would be bad ass. I have yet to see someone do that well.

i havent seen an egb attempt.

its also a pipe dream of mine to do an all black hearse/amberlamps.

BUMP FOR UPDATES

Finally gotten around to working on the car after all this time. It literally took “months” to get the transport company to fix the damage to the car.

Now that the hood and paint have been fixed…I finally have the car back in my possession.

First thing I did was gut the interior/exterior “disco lights”. Hey, I’m all for the Bee Gees and what not but these lights looked stupid and worked intermittingly. So out they went.

The strobes on the front I liked but they were these cheap things and they went out with the disco lights.

All of the dash cluster lights were out so I took out the instrument cluster and replaced the bulbs. The heater didn’t work. Found out the previous owner disconnected the wires because when you turned it on, it whined. So I took apart the heater motor, shot some WD-40 on it, put it back together and it worked like brand new.

I recently took out the seats and carpet. The floorboards have a few small holes in them, but nothing criticial. I painted the floorboards and plan to POR 15 them. That should do just fine. Took off all the door panels and plan to paint inside the door frame. Seal the doors from the inside out.

I also put the landau bars back on and tinted the windows. Also got 2 more hubcaps to match the missing ones on the right side. I had a few taillights out and a few headlights, replaced those blubs and got everything working.

Going to be working on the brakes soon as the rear lines have a small leak…but the front ones are okay.

I’ll upload new pics tomorrow.

74, eh? cool! not too far off from what was almost on screen… in the 8/5/83 script, the car was a 75 caddy.

here are some shots showing off the new tint job and reinstalled landau bars.

Primed and painted floors.

Not much left to do on the car. Just trying to put everything together and makesure everything works before ecto-fying the car.

The brakes are the main thing.

until next update

Looks good.

My 2-cents = Ecto it, or don’t. Don’t be non-committal and half-ass it. Pick one and go with it.

saw car is on ebay, wish you were closer to me, id definately buy it

Definitely gonna keep my eyes on this thread.
