My Dollar Store Proton Pack! - Repaint Page 3!

Oh, I havent got that far yet. At the moment the Gun/Thrower is in 2 pieces and I have to figure a way to connect them first. I have an idea though.

I think Im just going to use a film canister for the part you mentioned.

Right-click and save the parts list graphic to your computer, and then view it stand-alone.

Ok guys… by popular request, here is possibly the world’s first Silly String shooting Proton Gun. It’s unfinshed and unpainted, but I just tested it in the driveway and it works just fine!

Haha, nice. The one thing most costumes are missing is the ability to actually shoot ghouls and ghosts. I think trading accuracy for the silly string is well worth it.

Yeah… Thanks. Thats what I was thinking too. I just worked on it some more and added more lights and switches and details. Its looking way better then I thought was going to now.

Very cool concept on the thrower! I like where you went with all this!

Actually, Dark Jedi made a silly string shooting pack a while back. I think he sold it on ebay.

I remember seeing it on ebay, it used the spiderman webshooter’s silly string

that looks awesome! I’m feeling inspired.

Well… even though I havent seen his; I like mine better :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a great project! Any chance of making a tutorial with more details?

Anyhow, I’m looking to make two packs for a project with our children’s church department and didn’t want to spend a lot to make something authentic. The information on this site, and this particular project thread has given me confidence that I can make something that looks decent at a reduced cost.

I’m curious what you used as a backing plate (not sure what you guys call it) to mount to the frame and what did you use to connect all the pieces, glue?

Bradly how did you put this together? What was used as the base? I have never made one and would love to make one for around 20 bucks let me know. post it here or email me if you can at [email protected]

The backing board everything is attached to is from Home Depot. It’s a piece of hard project board, about 3’ x 5’, 1/4" thick, that cost about $4. Its nice and smooth, has no grain, cuts and drills and paints easy.

I took all the boxes I got from the Dollar Store and trimmed them to shape with my Dremmel. To attach them to the backing board, I took a long piece of 1" x 1" trim wood and cut it into small pieces. I hot-glued the small trim pieces into the inside of the boxes; and while the glue was still hot I layed the box on a flat surface to make sure everything was level. When that hot-glue was set, I hot-glued the boxes to the backing board using the trim pieces as the glue surface.

The entire pack is connected to the Alice Frame using zip-ties, and 2 bolts with large washers and lock washers. The 2 bolts and washers are at the bottom of the Alice Pack where the 2 long holes are in the Alice Frame. The zipties are at the top of the frame, sides and center and basically just keep the Pack from shifting because the bolts are doing most of the work.

Hope this helps?

That sounds very simple. I probably would over-think it and try something more complicated. Keep the tips coming!

Im trying to make one anyway if you could make a full tutorial to help another oregon…person and im sorry if this has been asked before

Now all we need is a dollar store ghost trap. Seriously, I’m so desperate to have an opening ghosttrap for Halloween I’m trying to make it out of legos.

I have the stuff to make a Ghost Trap from the Dollar store, but Im going to focus on the car now since the costume is basically done.

You should be able to find a food storage tupperware-ish box at the Dollar Store and Dremmel some doors into it, or just paint them on. The handle can be bought from the house cleaning supply isle, and the details can be made from some magic toys in the toys section. The cord and foot button should be able to be made from some of the Christmas light stuff that is showing up now.

Well, the car is behind schedule since the guy in Texas still hasnt mailed my police lights I got from Ebay. Grrrr…

But, here are some of the other pics! I think this is now offically done.

That thrower came out looking REALLY cool man! Very nice work! And it looks great attatched to the pack!

That proton gun actually looks pretty neat. It doesn’t look like a dollar store gun; it actually looks more like an original design.
