GBFanSince84's Kids proton pack dollar store build

First off, credit to Bradester. My design is based roughly on his dollar store build.

I decided to construct a proton pack for my 3 year old daughter so that she can be a ghostbuster for Halloween this year. I’m a newb at this and I figured this is a good place for me to start. I’m buying all of the parts from the Dollar Store and Lowe’s to keep it relatively cheap. I’ll post pics here for anyone interested in watching my progress and would also appreciate any constructive critism anyone is willing to offer. This pack will not be close to 100% screen accurate, but my goal is for it too look passable and most importantly I want my daughter to love it. She keeps coming downstairs while I’m working on it and saying “daddy, is my croton pack done yet?” lol. Cracks me up the way she says it. Anyways, without further delay, here is my progress so far:

Can’t wait to craft this water gun into a proton gun! I think it has nice potential.

I like the way that you’re going with this so far. Do you have any plans drawn out? Are all the materials going to be from the dollar store? Or are you try and get some hardware store pieces?

cool. can’t wait to see more of this build.

I purchased some of the materials from home depot (washers, electrical wiring, etc). I’m using my finished pack for reference as I build this. Nothing drawn out, but Bradester provided some nice direction with his dollar store build. It should look pretty good when I get done with it and let’s face it, my 3 year old will love it no matter what lol.

Thanks! I hope it turns out half as good as I want it to.

Looking forward to see this finished.

8/27 update: got a lot more done today. Still a long ways to go, but the layout is starting to come together better.

interesting.

I think it’s cool that you’re making that for your kid, that’s awesome. And from the photos so far so good. Looking forward to seeing the end result, as I’m sure your daughter is as well.

Thanks, yeah she’s super excited. I thought it would be a cool challenge for me to take on and I was thinking small scale since I’m a beginner when it comes to building packs. Figured building one for my 3 year old was a good place to start lol. It’s been an interesting task going to the dollar store and searching for items that would fit this build. I’ll have more pics up this weekend after I work on it more!

I know the feeling, about 90% of the pack I built came from a Dollar Store. Will this pack have lights or is this just a shell build. I found a Lazer Zapper and used that for the sound and light for my thrower. Not accurate but sometimes you have to use what’s availible. Anyway, I’ll be sure to check out those new pics when you upload them.

I’m going to try to put lights and sound in it if I can find something cheap that would work for it. I’ll post my findings.

Tony, start scouring the hobby stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby for battery operated lights. I actually stocked up on a few sets after Christmas last year. I picked up a red set as well as a blue and “warm” white set that I’m going to color orange for the slime blower. Cheap and easy lighting and some sets even blink or “twinkle” so you could have movement.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll check out Hobby Lobby this weekend and see if I can find anything.

Still lots to do, but I’m making progress.

Updates

Looking great Tony! Are you putting an ion arm on it?

coming along very nicely.

Yep and also a booster frame, ribbon cable, clippard, and shock mount. Any suggestions on putting a frame on there for the straps? An alice frame would be too big for it..

Looks great!

Some people build their own out of 3/4 in PVC and back pack straps.
