My Ecto Goggles

Built these over the past week, following Norm’s plans (mostly). I’m still working on putting some clear plastic or something in the lenses so they don’t look empty, and I need to figure out how I want to attach the top band. Additionally, I’m considering sanding down the sides to smooth them out better and then repainting those areas. What do you guys think?

And yes, I know the color is a little off, it’s the closest I could find. Nobody around here seems to sell olive drab.

I kind of like the colour. Definitely sand those side blocks down and fill the gaps with bondo though.

It’s odd, they look almost tan in the pictures, but in real life they appear significantly more green. I think it’s the camera flash.

Also, anyone know where I can get “adjustment knob” looking things for cheap? I want to add a couple more.

OK, they’re almost done. I sanded and repainted the side blocks, as well as added adjusters, the vertical strap, and one of the lenses. I just have to cut the other one, and then I think they’re finished.

How did you attach those blocks? Did you use some sort of caulking to fill the seams between the goggles and the blocks? Would the non-rigid sides cause the filled seeams to crack?

The blocks are screwed on from the inside, then I used Goop to fill in the seams. They move with the body well enough, and the Goop is flexible enough, that I don’t think I have to worry about cracking too much. If it becomes an issue, I’ll certainly let you guys know.

What did you use for the top of the head strap?

I used a random elastic band I had lying around, I think it was originally from an MP3 player armband.
