my first pack *56k not today*

my final product…

i’ve put about 70+ hours and 1 month into the hole costume, and around 500 bucks.

pretty much every single thing on the Pack and Gun are very accurate.. i would say 95%

everything was built from cardborad, bondo, and a shit tone of hot glue..

pretty much all the lights light up on the gun and pack, all are wired to switches on the gun itself.. probly about 8 hours just in wiring alone. though not movie accurate, didnt have the time to get the exact light kit or make one in time for the big party day :frowning:

pictures dont really do it justice.. but in person its amazing.

Big thanks to everyone out there with the plans/skill/and knowledge.. and GP for all there wounderfull parts =)

note.. not 100% done yet

Man, that thing’s gotta be a featherweight! Looks awesome!

I like the costume, and bouth costumes look great!!! What did people say when they saw you in a GB uniform¿?

Very nice!

good job dude that makes me mre excited to start work on mine

Great pack man! One of the best cardboard packs I’ve seen. Does the bondo really strengthen it? The finished product looks like it could take a beating and still be intact.

yeah it its not to heavy.. i would say maybe 15 pounds or so.

people where just amazed.. taking pictures with me all night, asking questions on how i made it.. and the ladies really loved it =)

they bondo held up quite well.. there where the occasional people who had to put there hands all over it, turn the lights on and off, take the gun outa the holster. but i brought some extra super glue just incase.. i new something would break during the night.. but quick little fixes.

it felt awesome when the DJ called my name for best costume, everyone cheering and clapping lol

thanks for the kind words fellas. couldnt have done it without this place.

couple more pics..

You proton pack looks great! My pack is made from cardboard too. What is ‘bondo’? What do you use it for? I have heard it mentioned many times on this forum.

It’s a polyester resin mainly used to fill car dents but us prop builders love the stuff too. It’s pretty nasty though so use a painters mask and I’d say work with it outdoors if you can (or a very well ventilated room).

Congrats on winning the contest with an awesome outfit!

Okay man, you win  . I have determined myself to build a more accurate pack this year with cardboard/foamboard and bondo. I’ve been perusing these forums this season looking for the easiest/cheapest way to build a pack and this method wins in my book. This is one of the most creative methods I’ve seen in a while. I also give props to Throwing Chicken and Frinky for making amazing prop pieces out of foamboard and bondo. I can’t wait! this is definitely a winning combo(cardboard/foamboard & bondo) for budget prop builders.

make sure you invest in a dremel or some type of knock off on ebay, and many different types of bits. theres is no way i could have done it without it. and get ready for lots of sanding.

yes bondo does smell, and a well vented area is key. make sure to wear some type of gloves(like latex), a raggy shirt/pants, some type of mask (like a doctor wears) and safety goggles.. the dust WILL get everywhere on you.

thanks for the comments guys… it was a challenge and also fun making something i have always wanted.

Very impressive!

I applaud your creativity, and ingenuity, and you came out with a very nice pack!

JC

Looks great man!

This inspired me too. I’m following the exact same steps. Hopefully it comes out just as good. This will also be my first pack.

Zombie thread! Great pack though, if the OP is still around.
