Hello everyone. I’m new around here and thought I’d share my RTV build that is currently about 95% complete.
This is 3d printed using Taco Belli’s files. Everything went together easily with a couple of minor tweaks here and there.
For the donor car I found a pretty crunchy Stampede chassis on eBay. Worked out great for this build, even came with a working servo.
I then printed all the pieces - the chassis, suspension rails, and handle mount were all printed in ABS for (hopefully) improved durability, the rest was printed in PLA. I used a Bambu P1s.
After a trip to my local hobby shop to pick up some suspension parts and electronics, I took apart the Stampede and transferred nearly everything to my ABS printed chassis. I printed it upside down so the bottom is nice and smooth, but the interior is pretty ugly.
I’ll gloss over most of the details but I modified a mini servo and attached it to the doors, which can be controlled with the ch3 rocker switch on my transmitter. (I went with Spektrum electronics for this by the way, made sense since I already have batteries and charger.)
The Spektrum ESC I bought came with lights, so I wired those to the headlights. The right hand one I snipped and soldered the leads to a cheap flashlight which fit perfectly.
The pieces were all sanded and painted and everything was assembled with M3 screws. I got the stickers printed at a local shop as part of a larger order (I ordered 4 sets of pack stickers and 2 sets of traps), and once those were on I weathered everything down with acrylics. Still to do on this will be to hook up the other two lights to the red light on the back of the trap and an amber/yellow light in the front for the mock bar graph. Oh, and I bought a case for it. It was a challenge to find one deep enough but it’s great to be able to keep it secure for travel.
Overall I’m very happy with how this project turned out and it’s a ton of fun to drive around. I took it to a local con last weekend and lots of people got a kick out of it.
