My Scratch-built Key Strap

Well, here it is.

After a little searching, I finally found a snap hook which looks pretty close to the one in the Reference pics (second row, stacked-up hand shake - look left at the snap body shape). A little pic scaling and some hardware later, I came up with this.

It may not be “perfect”, but I think it’s pretty darn close !

Are you kidding me! That is fantastic.. You never cease to amaze me!

*SCHWEET!! Wishfull thinking - But have you thought about doing a run of these?

*Cheers.

ectofiend -

I have some extra materials left over - if there’s enough interest, I might be talked into making a few more.

Busybuildr put me down for one if you ship to the UK, thats the one key chain im missing searched high & low for that actual style that was used in the first movie

Yeah, I’d take one too if you want to do a run of them. That’s some nice craftsmanship you got there. Looks spot on.

Well, I finally got some spare time so I’m working to make up a few of these.

When I get some in hand, I’ll post a sale.

If you’re interested, WATCH THE FOR SALE SECTION !

You still thinking about making these? NUDGE NUDGE ;-)…

Cheers.

YES !

I know it’s been awhile, but I hope to get the rest of them done in the next month or so. I still have all the materials, just haven’t had the time.

My plan was, and still is, to have all of them completed and ready to go before I offer them up for sale.

wow this is uncanny, i opened the uniform section to find this thread and bump it up, and what do I find when i get here? awesome

put me down for 1 please!

Me too! Outstanding work on this!

Where did you find your leather? I have the snaps and punches but none of the craft stores seem to carry the appropriate leather that I need.

You can get leather from tandyleatherfactory.com or search for it on eBay.

The Tandy leather is top quality, but is is unfinished - you would have to dye and seal it.

eBay generally has remnants of dyed and finished leathers at really good prices. However, finding the right thickness may take a little patience as most of the remnants are from upholstery shops (too thin).

Thanks for the advice!

I’ll check the weight of the straps I have to get the appropriate black leather. It appears to me that all the straps are the same- a strap with a D-ring on the end. The only difference that I can see is that some have the keyring and quick clip attached to them as shown in your picture. Although the reference picture I am looking at (the one mentioned in this thread) shows the keyring at the end of the strap instead of looped around the D-ring. In other words, the quick clip and D-ring mate together instead of the keyring and the D-ring. The other one like it in that same photo almost looks like the quick clip is attached directly to the strap around the belt and a keyring hanging from the quick clip. Then a third style in that picture is just of the strap and the D-ring.

Great work!

The one with the snap hook attached to the D-ring is set up as a regular key strap (keys go on the split ring).

The reversed set up (split ring to D-ring) puts the hook on the bottom so you can clip your thrower to it.

Gotcha. I had always thought that the thrower hooked into the keyring. The reference pictures I have seen of the gun show a metal wire hook that would hang on the key ring.

Here it is the correct way round.

And here from the reference section you can see it on the belt bottom left

The hook on the bottom of the gun gose on the ring at the bottom.

I’ve got one just like it and they come in handy at cons to hang your gun off your belt than trying to hang it back on your pack all the time

The thrower I built has a split ring mounted to the bottom which engages the snap hook - much more secure than an “open” hook, IMO.

BTW Goosebuster, great looking strap assembly !

Did you make it yourself ?

I bought mine off spooky on proptopia.

But I may be offering some of my own soon

Hey busybuildr, where did you get the split ring eye bolt-piece? Is it threaded on the one end, or how did you get it to mount into the track?
