I ordered my uniform off of ebay from seller captainamerca who I found out about month and a half after ordering from that a lot of people on this site had bad dealings with and had not many nice things to say about him, but I only have 2 complaints. 1) It got to me 3 weeks later than I was quoted and 2) The pistol belt doesn’t fit me.
Now here are the questions from the title of this post; Does the pistol belt only come in one size? If so what can I do to rectify my situation? And if not where can I get a bigger one?
Most of the reproduction M-1936 pistol belts seem to come in a standard size of about 42". Some of the larger GBs have attached two belts together, which usually seems to work fine; the pack or belt gear can easily hide the junction point between the two belts.
That could work, I’m just worried that I’d have too much belt then cause I’m not that big, I have about a hands length between belt ends. I wonder if there’s any way of making a working extension from another belt without having to use the whole thing.
The belt I have here in my hands has a maximum length of 42" almost exactly.
Reduced down as far as it will go, it ends up being 23.5". That’s with the adjustment piece in the very last hole on the belt. That makes for a 47" belt. I never thought of it before, but that does mean people with waists in that 5" range between 42" and 47" are stuck in sort of a limbo area.
I’d imagine it would be possible to take the adjustment piece (the flat bit with 3 grommets and a hook in the end that you position in the pistol belt holes to size it), drill out the grommets, cut the belt down, and use new grommets to reattach it. In fact, if you cut the second belt down to just a few inches, you might be able to simply leave the adjustment piece unused and sew the other end of the T-buckle into the belt, creating a fixed, non-adjustable, single layer extension that could be worn just off to the side of the center buckle and hidden under the gloves.
Cut the belt along the red line. Remove the two sets of grommets on either side of the blue line. Fold along the blue line over the other side of the T-buckle. Set 3 new grommets of the same size in the empty holes to secure the other buckle piece in place.
Ending up with this:
An approximately 7.5" piece that can be attached to your belt and hidden under your gloves or radio holster. I’d also recommend maybe zip-tying it in place.
Of course, if you’re going to this trouble, you could just grommet 2 belts together to make a permanently longer belt.
You might end up finding it easier to buy 2 new belts. Kerezman cheaps out on the dye, giving you a belt that’s almost still white. Trying to dye another belt to match will be tough. New white pistol belts are only $5-7, and you’ll end up with a whole extra belt’s worth of material in case you mess up; plus, you can dye both of them together to get the same color on both.
Thanks for the little tutorial Jairus, it was cool of you to do that! The shop here has pistol belts in stock, so I’m going to order up 2 of 'em so I have 2 that are the same color. Thanks again for the help!
And I took a couple shots of it hanging off of my bedroom door and stuffed the chemical gloves (that I bought shortly after I ordered my uniform and almost completely forgot about until I spotted them on my closet shelf) in one of the leg pockets.
My 3 year old son seen me and had to suit up in his Halloween costume too.
I bought 2 pistol belts from the GBFans shop to replace the non fitting one, and I’m planning to get more stuff like a PKE meter, a pair of Ecto goggles, a trap, and one day either a built or bought Proton Pack. I’ll probably build a couple more uniforms myself too and a proper one for my son as well.
