Yeah but i have to agree with people here build one, much more fun, and much more rewarding in the end. Look on the Proton pack section and see some of the ones just made out of odds and ends, i mean most look really cool. This is incase this person comes back.
Building one is definitely the best way to go. At first I also wanted to just buy one and be done with it, but now that I’m halfway done with building my own, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, when you build your own, you can put your own bit of personal customization to it to make it yours. You won’t regret it.
I was in the same exact situation last Halloween, at one point I was gonna get rubies costumes until someone talked me into just slapping a bunch of stuff together for a pack. THEN I had the idea to just make the motherboard out of foamboard and then I just kept building, and building…well, heres the thread:

I built those two packs in a few months starting end of august (only because I kept running short of funds in finishing them, from start to finish you could probably get them done within a month). Just read carefully what I’ve done.
Damn that’s freaking awesome! Your pack looked great. Even if it’s not an accurate movie pack, I’m sure you got mad props from people on Halloween. Everyone likes the homemade costumes. What’s sad is the dude who started this thread probably hasn’t checked out the replies he’s gotten.

… Ok. LOL! I hadda add to it. Anyway. I loved the idea of having my own GB costume. I, like you guys, prefered the idea of doing it myself and feeling like I achieved something. I really felt proud of the whole thing after I painted the logo on. I’m probably going to customize it all out myself. You know, make a cheap trap or two for my backpack. The proton packs are cool, but I’m afraid they might be too heavy. I hate anything that might weigh on my right shoulder blade. I have Tendinitis. >_<
But, everyone here is right, it feels better making than buying. It looks more authentic I think.
Not many people know this but the mayor of New York wanted to build his own proton pack. He heard that they can be built for very little money and was told by his aides and public officials that Egon built one for $200. So when the Ghostbusters walked into the mayor’s office, the mayor immediately said…
