1.) I’ve been trying to find what size PVC pipe is needed to support the bracket and also what is supposed to be inside. From aerial photos, it looks look a smaller PVC pipe inside. Can anyone provide me some info on what to do here?
2.) So my pack doesn’t have the right side of the hose housing open. Any suggestions on how to mount the hose so it will stay put? I will drill to fit the hose, but am curious what everyone is using to adhere it in place.
3.) It looks like there is PVC around the piece that sticks up on the shell. Any idea what the length / diameter of the PVC pipe should be?
4.) Can anyone tell me if these are different lengths when mounted on the pack? What I have now looks odd (about 2.5 inches difference)
5.) What is the length / diameter of the two PVC pipes. Also, what is the best way to keep these in place. It looks to me that since it is very exposed, there should be a good way to get this nice and secure.
Thanks all for the help / guidance. This project has been about 3 years in the making.
For #5 just get some of that thin walled white pipe in the bathroom section of your local hardware store that’s used for sinks. It’s the right diameter. Also get a couple fender washers to glue onto the bottom, a couple electrical conduit size adapters to fit inside the tops, and a couple more washers which fit inside said adapters as well as bolts for said washers. Then glue the adapters inside the top of the pipes after bolting the adapters to the bottom of the power cell.
As for the length look at Stephan’s plans in the Equipment section of the website. (Links at top of page.)
Oh, and you could drill out #2, but I think most people just stick something coming off it which they slip the pipe over, since that’s accurate to how it was done on the real packs.
Also, the accurate size for #1 is actually in aluminum pipe. You can’t get PVC in the right size, though you can get pretty close. I forget what diameter people use. Again it’s in the plans.
The two dowels on #4 are the same length. The right one sticks up more than the other though because it is sitting on a ledge.
You do know there is a full set of plans for the pack on this website, rght? You don’t need to calculate how big everyhting is or where it’s located yourself:
As for the distance between the two dowels, it’s a little over an inch. You can just eyeball it. It’s obvious when looking at the plan that the right dowel should be centered between two edges.
Plans say it’s 2.375" wide. They don’t make PVC in that width, but 2" PVC is 2" inner diameter, so the outer diameter is slightly more than 2". I think it’s like 2.5". So slightly wider than it should be but close enough for most. If you want an accurate aluminum tube though, someone sells them in the for sale forum I think.
1: Stefan’s plans are wrong with this measurement. This piping should have an OD of 2.5". The best way to get this is to purchase some 2.5" OD acrylic tube. Probably the best place to buy it cheap would be on Ebay
2, 3, and 4: You can use 1" schedule PVC pipe for these pieces.
3: The length should be 2.25" long instead of 2.5" long as stated on Stefan’s plans.
4: Both these should be the same length, 3.875", instead of one being long then the other, as in stefan’s plans.
5: The OD of the injector tubes should be 1.5" OD. The best thing I’ve found to use for these is 1.5" OD pvc drain pipe. This can be found in 1 foot lengths with the rest of the fixtures for hooking up sinks. They should be a length of 6.875".
For #1, you can get pvc as lowe’s or home depot, and whats called a test cap. They are thin styrene plastic. It goes on the top, and is indented about 1/4-1/2 inch down. Add a simple black 2 liter bottle cap, and it’ll look fine. Since that sits at the top of your pack, people can’t really see down into it anyway.
