new recruit in PPIE

greetings fellow GBers!

i am donnie. 31 yr old NYer residing in queens but my base of operations is in the heart of chinatown, not too far from the hook and ladder 8. sometimes on my break i’ll take a walk down to the area and just remember how the unfinished ecto-1 made its way to the driveway while bill murray made it known that you cant park that here.

i was only 3 yrs old when the first GB film came out but didnt see it until i was 6. watching that movie for the first time just blew me away and my imagination ran wild. i knew then i wanted to be a ghostbuster. my folks fed my desire for the film, and cartoon, with the kenner toy line. even my dad shared my enthusiasm by mimicking many memorable lines from the film. even now as i watch the film, my dad would pop in my head as he said it in his own way.

when GB 2 came out i was fortunate enough to see it in theaters. taken by none other than my dad to enjoy another memorable moment. while GB 2 received (or even still receives) mixed reviews, i enjoyed it for what it was. it was another GB movie and thats all that mattered. and as a fan, like many of you here, i cross my fingers in the hope that a 3rd film will be made and do it some justice, even bringing my hopes higher (and higher) that hollywood wont ruin another popular franchise.

when the 2009 video game was released, i was in absolute awe. i felt like i was that 6 yr old kid again. ive played it so many times and it never ceases to put me in a bustin’ makes me feel good mood.

halloween is a week away, but months before that, ideas kept floating in the air as to who, or what, i will dress up as next. i even had powdered toast man as an idea but as october drew closer and closer, my PTM idea died when one day while i was at work, a tourist approached me and asked me where was the ghostbusters firehouse. with a huge smile on my face i gladly directed him to the location. soon after i looked around online on how to put together a ghostbusters costume and make it look legit. not long i came across this site and it contained so much information. i kept reading more and more information and i quickly decided that i was gonna do this. i was gonna be a GB, not just for halloween, but cosplay as well at the NY comic con, which took place not too long ago. immediately i had a chat with my GF (now my fiance), layed out the idea to her and right away was engulfed with as much joy as i was already in.

i invested so much money in the idea but it was money worth spending. i got almost everything we needed for our costumes. i ordered a matty PKE meter, hand made the belt gizmos and traps myself (i wasnt gonna spend so much on the matty traps being that i spent so much money already but eventually bought one less than $300 and arrived yesterday). overall NY comic con was a blast, like it always is every year, and for first time GBers, we were very proud of the work we both put into our costumes. the only thing we lacked were the proton packs but i have a full year to make that happen and its a process i believe will give great results.

overall, i am a big GB fan. im a big fan now as i was when i was younger. because im such a big fan, i also have an interest in the paranormal, supernatural and cryptozoology. while ive had my own experiences in the paranormal, i have to say, there are things that go bump in the night. i just think it be cool if we were able to zap 'em, cap 'em, and trap 'em.

feel free to swing by and say hello and i look forward to meeting some of you on here. :sigh:
