Newbie - GBFans Fiberglass shell

Hey everyone!

I’m building a pack and just purchased the gbfans fiberglass shell and the aluminum motherboard. I was curious which plans you would recommend and where to start from here?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Take a look in the equipment section>plans at Stefan’s plans.

Stefan’s plans are a great reference for placement of things, but I would advise also digging into the Proton Pack subforum here, and reading as many comprehensive build threads as you can find. The Section Index Thread The Proton Pack Section Index Thread - Proton Packs - GBFans.com is a great way of finding them, as well as discussions about individual parts and methods involved. I would also advise pulling as much picture reference as you can get your hands on, Vincenzo330’s Best Reference Photos Ever Available The Best Reference Photos Ever Available!!! - Proton Packs - GBFans.com have been amazingly helpful for me in my own build so far, especially because I’m building a GB2 pack. Take your time, read everything you can. Maybe even start your own build thread so us other nerds can salivate over your parts and pitch in our own 2 cents on any questions you might have.

READ READ READ.

My thread used a “For Dummies” approach to building on the GBFans shell. While I don’t explain everything, the great members on this board were able to chime in with the answers to questions on my build.

You might have a look at the photos I took of the Venkman Hero Pack:

Thanks for all the great info. So much to read!! I have ordered a lot of parts from GBFans - my shell and aluminum motherboard arrived a few weeks ago.

I was wondering if you have or are supposed to sand the fiberglass shells? I’ve heard people have done it, some have not.

Anyone?

I lightly did mine, and then tried a hammered paint to add some texture. Didn’t work out too well, but that was likely my fault for rushing it. You can see in my build thread what I did.

Thanks, Jay! I will check out your thread for reference.

More parts, more pics…

More stuff is on the way!
