I’ll be getting 2 of them!
I dunno… MAYBE I’d get a pair. I just wish they’d offer the ghost trap again, I had to sell mine and would like to get it back without spending $300-400 on ebay…
did he say much about the pke component? is it a “microchip” that comes with the goggles and plugs into the existing pke meter?
While I’m still not blown away, I have to admit, these look like they could have a lot of potential.
Thanks for the pics Pat.
They look great

Now I really want one!
May be a silly question, but do the images appear in both lenses or just the right one? Also, THANK YOU for posting these!
Great work you guys. It was quite the rush to be the first to see them at SDCC this summer and they look even better now.
Sorry Joe - I asked about the trap, and it’s over and done with. What’s out there is what will always be out there. Same with the PKE - the run that’s for sale now is the last one they made, and they aren’t making more.
The PKE component comes with the goggles and plugs into the round hole near the power switch. It looks like the bottom of a gutter drain pipe sort of - it curves outwards. It’s pretty small - no more than an inch long. There is some kind of electrical component to it, though I don’t know exactly how it works, other than it picks up the sound from the PKE, but there could be more to it. Scott said that if you dial up the activity on your PKE, the goggles will read that, and you’ll see more ghosts, and if you have it lower, there will be fewer ghosts.
The prototype only had Slimer in the right lens, but the ghosts will be in both lenses once it’s all done.
If any of you guys have any more specific questions you want us to ask, let me know. We’ll be going back there on Saturday and Sunday, and they’ll be there all weekend. I can try to see if we can shoot some video of the Slimer effect, too.
If they fix the lenses and make them more accurate to the real prop then I think I would be inclined to purchase a pair. Until that gets fixed, I will just stick with my goggles which look far more accurate. Thanks guys for all the coverage.
If something needs to plug into the PKE to make it work, then I suspect that rather than use the sound of the PKE to work, it uses infrared like a remote control and the PKE bit is an infrared LED that blinks and the goggles have an IR sensor on them somewhere. Would be really easy for them to make that work, and a lot harder to do it with sound.
Thing is, I don’t see anything on the little PKE thing that looks like electronics. It just looks like a piece of molded plastic. I suspect it’s just a prototype. I also don’t see either an infrared sensor or mic on the goggles. They could put the sensor inside the lenses but I doubt they would have done that as the plastic might block IR and it would make it way more directional so you’d have to point them right at the PKE. If I were a betting man though, I’d say they’ll eventually hollow out one of those thumbscrews and put an IR sensor in there. They already did that for a few screws on the goggles.
I was worried about the size of them, but compared to the fan ones, they look ok. If I got one, I’d likely repaint it, so the color isn’t that worrying to me. The straps are what really bothers me. Even if there’s some legal reason for them to be elastic, the attachments look really flimsy and inaccurate. On the plus side, it shouldn’t be too hard to snip those crappy plastic loops off and and add some simple metal strap attachment points.
On the whole, I’m still more on the side of buying than not. The Slimer effect looks very cool and fun. I’m definitely puzzled by the attachment for the PKE Meter. There certainly don’t look to be any electrical contacts in mine. Maybe it’s a remote mic that transmits to the goggles?
Odd question I know but do they look like they would be easily worn over glasses? Kinda a deal breaker for me - no point having shiny effects if I can’t see them!
I can ask a bit more about how the attachment/electronics work - I thought it was just a hollow tube to direct a microphone, but there definitely is something electronic in there, as the PKE just isn’t loud enough on its own.
The side knob on the right of the goggles is functional as well - it seems to control the frequency of how often the ghosts appear. Maybe the IR stuff is in there?
txteva - I wear glasses as well, and there would be NO room to wear them over glasses, unfortunately. The back plate is almost flush with the back - that’s a huge difference with the actual goggles (though my glasses don’t fit inside of regular goggles, either). It’s either contacts or free-eyeballin’ it if you are visually imparied.
Shame but I’m sure thats saved me a bunch - I’ll just have to borrow my friends once in a while when he gets them… I’d be get customising my welding googles…

On a serious note these really do look like cheap crap…it hurts me to say that but they really do.i hope this is not the final look for the Goggles.
I feel like each prop Mattel releases looks less accurate than the last. These may very well end up being a fun toy, but they’re far from prop replicas.
well if they dont fit over glasses, I cant wear them. I just saved myself $80
I don’t know of any microphones smaller than the size of a dime, so if there is one on the goggles it would have to be inside with holes to let the sound in. There are some holes inside the goggles that are strangely positioned but it would be dumb to put a mic there because your forehead would block them. There would be no point in putting a mic on the PKE. But I did consider that the little thing was supposed to be like a horn to direct the PKE sound towards the goggles. But this doesn’t make sense either, because the “plug” is much too small to let much sound through and even if it were the width of the “horn” that would do so little to project the sound it can’t possibly be the intention. I looked at the horn closely though and I can’t see an IR led in there, so that’s why I thought it might just be an empty prototype. The goggles don’t work with the PKE yet so they wouldn’t have needed to put one in there to show it at the con.
I’m gonna have to pass these up as I did the trap. Just to toy looking. Now I love my PKE.
