With Halloween coming and the inevitable wave of newbies coming looking to build that Proton pack they always wanted, I’m remembering my 1st arrival here and the Packs and Throwers I saw and I wanted to do a thread on that.
Some favorites I love looking at. The Pioneers that were building throwers before the days of “super-accurate blueprints” and AutoCad drawings of Proton Packs, and machinists making parts. The days before “Proton Gun Kits”…
Please post some “oldschooL throwers” pictures from guys like: Playskool & Namebrand, Stuff from the Ghostbusters Props Archive. Stuff from Cyland Props, Norm Gagnon and Sean Bishop (Venkman71).
I thought I had more pictures saved and Names on them, so I know who the builder was.

Thanks for the replies. Sometimes I like looking at the old throwers and packs, because I have a lot of respect for the guys who were doing this without all the resources we have now.
Playskool’s pack is a work of art. I love it. When I started to get into this whole thing I saw that pack everywhere, thinking somebody had got up close and personal with a screen used pack and took pro photos etc. I had no idea it was a fan-made creation. The weathering on it is incredible.
Does anyone have any more pictures of it? or the story behind it?
Great thread Jay nice seeing the old school throwers and how great those guys did with little info compared to what we have now. Here is one of my all time favs
This is Roboprop’s GB2 thrower and pack still lives up pretty good and he did a phenomenal for it’s time. The pack with the GB1 cable you have posted above I believe is one that fellow member Hooker did years back, I also thought that pack was great.
Seriously, the community has come a long way after looking through these packs. I do miss all the classic scratch builds though, it was like watching a child grow up.
built this back when I first started welding. I’d like to do another one someday. These are the only pics I have (I don’t have the pack anymore) This was 2005-ish I believe.
The bargraph on the thrower was just printed on photo paper. Ghetto, no? :lol:
