So is it pretty much a definite that a GameStop pre-order will arrive at their store on Wed (instead of Tuesday the 16th)?
If thats the case, I’d rather just order from Amazon. There is no way I can wait the extra day, knowing that other people are playing this game!

Pre-order from Gamestop with overnight shipping and they have guaranteed release day delivery on the game.
Problem with Ghostbusters The Game is, it doesn’t have a release date, it has a ship date. If it had a release date, then the game would be on store shelves nation wide on that date. But since it’s a ship date, it will ship on June 16th and depending on how close you live to the distribution centers, it will be in stores anywhere from June 16 to June 17th. Gamestop usually has their games over nighted so most Gamestops will have the game on Wednesday, June 17th.
Now if Ghostbusters was a bigger game release, it would probably be shipped to stores a week early then get a midnight release and all that jazz.
So sadly, most people will have to wait till Wednesday, June 17th to play.

June 16th is (and should be) the Street date/release date for this game.
Okay, I now see where their website says that but then why would it say up-top under the price that pre-orders ship 6/16/09? Just a little confusing.
Anyway, what I stated above is how it works. If its has a Street Date, then it is on shelves by that date. If it has a ship date, then it is shipped out that day. What is misleading is most websites just say release date and don’t specify. Believe me, I worked as a game rep. in a joint project for multiple publishers for over a year. I had to explain this crap to people all the time because they’d give me crap that a game wasn’t in stores on a Tuesday.
I’d still bet money that people that pre-ordered in store at gamestop won’t get their copy till Wednesday. Honestly, I hope I’m wrong and they come in on Tuesday, I really want to play the game just as badly as everyone else here. But my sensible guess is it will be on shelves Wednesday.
dont mind playing it either tuesday, or wednesday. just one more day. been waiting this long. just want my shirt though. if i dont get that then i may be little peeved.
So does that mean to get it on the 16th that people have to pay extra? It talks about overnighting it, I didn’t know if that meant some people will have their individual games sent for the 16th, then the rest of us schmoes get it the next day.
It’s weird to me that it hasn’t been “street dated” yet. Back when Activision was still in charge, the game was street dated in October. It seems to have an even bigger following now AND they’ve had plently more time to get the game out even wth the polishing.
I’m really just hoping for a midnight release party. My local Gamestop guy said that if it was “street dated” they would for sure have one.

All I was trying to state is some games are given street dates while others are given ship dates. Street dates mean the game is in stores, on shelves on that date (A.K.A. “on the street” on that date). Ship dates mean that the game is shipped that date from distribution centers and usually end up the next day or later at stores. I honestly am not sure which one Ghostbusters has since every website I check just says release date which does not specify which kind it is.
I assumed Ghostbusters was ship dated because of Gamestop’s website stating that pre-orders shipped June 16th under the price on their website and have not heard of any midnight releases for the game yet. BUT as stated a few times in this thread, Gamestop has a special going on for GBs to have it shipped out and over nighted to customers on June 15th. What that means for people that pre-ordered in store with in store pick up, I honestly have no idea.
I hope people start hearing about Midnight releases though, because that would be awesome to get it at midnight.
When i put my pre-order down at GS i asked about a midnight release. The guys told me that they wouldn’t know if it was going to be a midnight release until the weekend before. I would imagine that since the game has already made it to their “Best Sellers” list that there is a good chance there will be a midnight release. Only time will tell, though.
Yeah, seeing it on the best sellers will hopefully encourage them to do a midnight release. If so, I’m gearing up!!
i don’t see what’s so great waiting for the stores to release this game at midnight i mean forgive me but after what happen last year in december with that wal-mart incident. i would want to be one of those people willing to kill another person for the pleasure of owning a copy of ghostbusters. not that i’m saying that you shouldn’t get a copy. i’m saying you should do the smart thing and wait the next day i’m sure it’ll still be available.
The appeal is getting the game earlier and getting to play it sooner. It’s the same reason why people go to midnight viewings of new movies. It feels almost like you’re getting to see it sooner than everyone else. Not only that, but many times it’s fun… especially if you have people show up in costume or local news stations stopping by to catch the fuss.
Those incidents were related to items that were in high-demand with little supply. (I.e. PS3 & Wii) I seriously doubt the Ghostbusters game will be in such short supply that people will resort to criminal acts to get their hands on a copy. I’ve attended midnight releases for at least a half a dozen games in the past couple years and I have yet to encounter anything even remotely similar to any crimes such as those.
If you want to stay home because you’re paranoid and/or afraid that is your loss. it doesn’t make you “smarter” than anyone else because you choose not to go. These midnight releases can be quite fun, and every one i have been to so far has been perfectly safe and without incident!
People get robbed while driving cars… does that mean you get rid of your car or stop driving? People get robbed while they are walking… should they not walk anywhere? Crimes happen everywhere for all kinds of reasons and in all different circumstances… Are you going to lock yourself in your house because you’re afraid of it? Come on!
Are you really comparing the BUSIEST SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR where there are to kill for deals… and compare it to a release of a Video Game? This isn’t Harry Potter..
if our store does a midnight launch id go. been to acouple of em, and yes theyre pretty kewl. usually the people there act respectable. im not sure if GB is a big enough franchise for our store to do a midnight launch though.
