Does anyone remember the original nes gb game? I am pretty sure it was a port of an older system. It wasn’t nessesarily the most sophisticated game out there, but I liked the idea of an economy and running ghostbusters like a business. I have been mulling over in my head the frame work for a fan-made game that resembles the nes ghostbusters game.
I have an android phone and have submitted myself as a beta tester for the new app inventor program from googlelabs. If I get good enough at using it, I have some fun ideas on making a gb game that utilizes my phones features like the gps, accelerometer, camera, etc…
I hope to post some updates as soon as I get the green light to start developing.
This game was horrible, but it was actually pretty ambitious. IT tried to be sandbox, have a plot, have character progression, and have micromanagement. It failed, but it tried.
In all honesty, I was addicted to the Commodore 64 version when I was a kid (when it was released mind you) and can still play it for hours on emulator, but from what I’ve played of the NES version (ahem emulated) it is actually poorer in quality to that AND released several years later.
To be fair though, the NES was built off the foundations of the previous versions so it really didn’t have much to go on with, but the item limitations, the paying for gas, the traffic parts and the abysmal stair level didn’t help much.
If you’ve watch the Nerd’s reviews, the Master System is somewhat better (I think by just mostly updating the originals rather then trying to recreate something unique) but the stair level again starts to kill the game (although it’s easier if you can afford the 2nd proton stream which allows you to shoot forwards and upwards.. if you can afford it).
There was a recreation of the original C64 game made a few years ago, but I felt it was too buggy and resource heavy (computing wise) that it just wasn’t worth playing.
Man I couldn’t stand playing that game. Your thumb would get numb from hitting the button to advance up the stairs and then not know if you’re going to die. Prefer NES GB II much more.
I had the NES GB game. I never really liked it. It was a cool game though. You ran around town in the Ecto-1, catch ghosts, then at some point, you head to Zuul’s tower. Problem is that I could never get to the top. There were ghosts patrolling the stairwell that could hurt you as they floated around, and you couldn’t fire your proton gun to defend yourself. It sucked big time. After the tenth time, I turned off my NES, took out the game, stuck it in a drawer, and never played it again.
I don’t remember exactly where I found it but there is a freeware version of the NES game, re-done with new graphics, floating around. Maybe I can upload it tonight if no one else can locate ti.
