Petaluma Ghostbusters

Just thought I would post a few pictures of my Halloween adventure for 2012. I have been wanting to do an accurate Ghostbusters costume for some time, and with the support of a few friends I think we pulled it off quite well. To be fair, I build costumes with my friend Shawn, the proprietor of Thorsson and Associates Workshop. I consider myself to be one of the key associates in his venture, although I end up working for cool toys instead of money. We ended up building only nine proton packs, although we intended to build more. Enjoy the pictures and you can read Shawn’s write up of the process at his blog site: http://protagonist4hire.blogspot.com/

Here I am looking way too happy to be starting this project:

These are the prototype forming bucks coming together:

Here is the first vacuum formed pull:

Once we molded all the prototype small parts, we had to make lots and lots of resin castings:

We can’t just build one of anything:

Here is the first completed pack. I say completed loosely as there are still parts missing, but we were running out of time.

I don’t think we got a picture with all of us in one spot, but Petaluma, California had exceptional Ghostbuster coverage on Halloween.

Not bad for a few weekends. Let me know what you think.

You guys look great! It’s also great to see more Nor-cal busters!

Those packs are sick. Good job.

Thanks - We are hoping to finish these up with the missing tubing and such. We also want to add lights and sound to at least a few of these.

Awesome work guys! I’m actually living in Santa Rosa and I put together a pack this Halloween as well. While I had to do mine on a pretty tight budget I think it turned out okay for my first go. I got my boss making some now though and he’s doing a great job. Here’s his thread:

Anyway maybe we should all hit up some bars in Petaluma rocking our gb gear.

Amazing work, at this point I could only wish for a pack that looks that good!

Tyler - Check out my friend’s blog. If you are in Santa Rosa and like doing this kind of stuff, you might want to swing by our shop sometime. More often then not we don’t have time to hang out in the bars, as we are usually knee deep in some project. We are finishing some Halo Master Chief suits right now; beginning an Ironman build; making plans for our display at the 2013 MAKER’s Fair; and will likely to be setting up to finish a couple more Space Marine suits. We are also planning to refine our vacuum forming plugs for the proton pack so we can mold these and pull fiberglass copies.

Matt - They only look this good because I have no close up shots. I suspect the only people in the world that would even notice the problems are our fellow proton pack builders. Nobody else would know if the right model clipper value was used or if all the wires were missing (like mine). The great part about Ghostbusters is that it is so iconic that close is correct to the general public. Give it a shot and if you run into any problems, I’m sure any number of GB fan members, including myself, can help you with whatever you need.
