Plywood Pack...?

Has anyone ever attempted to create a pack made of mostly plywood? I know it would probably be heavy as hell, but I was wondering if it’s been done and if there’s already a thread out here somewhere that one has been started/cpmpleted. thanks!

people use MDF all the time

My first pack had some plywood parts, but I quickly discovered that MDF was far easier to work with. Also with MDF you don’t have to worry about smoothing out the grain in the wood.

It seems to me that plywood would be more prone to warping than MDF…

I’m honestly not familiar with MDF… can I get it at the local Home Depot or Lowe’s?

Yep they both carry it

My pack is essentially plywood (well, Luaun wood, which is more or less plywood)

It’s about 25 lbs, give or take. Luaun wood is pretty much a plywood, but is lighter, and I think only comes in 1/4" thickness. It splinters more than Plywood, but is, in my opinion, easier to work with. However, the Spacer and Cyclotron are pretty much traditional plywood, but are hollow layers to cut down the weight.

Chris

we are making ours out of sintra… frigging light as hell so far.

I made a master mold for a trap out of plywood. not sure the exact weight but it is a brick compared to our packs which are fiberglass.

If your building more than one pack I would make the master out of pywood and then cast it in silicon and make fiberglass copies.

my mobo is plywood… its warping…

plywood =warps

MDF = brittle under certain conditions…

all these synthetic woods.. suck.. im gonna make a Proton pack out of Douglas Fir , Southern Yellow Pine… or some fine Mahogany wood

Two of my packs are made of 1/4 " Luann plywood. About 25 - 30 lbs completed. Sturdy, but prone to warping if it gets wet. Easy enough to deal with but you do have to worry about the wood grain. That can be solved with some Bondo work if you got the time to work on it that much.

I would make the current Pack out of it if I had the proper tools to cut the wood.
